Hi I had a PAYG number that I have had for at least 8 years it has been disconnected because of non use. My last text was 30 June. I need the number as it is my contact for a variety of other services I use.
How can I get it reconnected?

If the phone was last used for a chargeable activity 30th June this year, the number should not have been disconnected for non use, that only happens after 180 days and after that time you should have an additional 90 days to top up and use the service.
Try topping up online and making a chargeable activity, if the SIM accepts the top up it will bring the SIM out of restriction.
If you continue to have problems, live chat are there to help with getting your number back online.
Where PAYG is concerned, it is always advisable to keep the SIM active, a regular short chargeable call or text does the job as does adding a small amount of credit.

The sim is not activated, no service. The phone and therefore the sim had credit on it. I have phoned customer service and they said it has been recycled, I have been to the local vodafone shop and they said that the number does not appear on the system.
I think that this is totally unaceptable to terminate a number, without giving prior warning, a simple text reminder would have been suficient. So there are issues here, that number is my contact for a variety of services I access, it also had credit on it. What are my options.

Does the number ring if you call it yourself?
If a number has been disconnected from non usage which is normally 180 days then it's quarantined and put back I to the number pool at some time in the future.
You could try phoning Customer Services on 191 or Live Chat and ask them if anything can be done.
