Hi,
I do not use the phone but I'm thinking it maybe the components of the camera.
You could pop into a Vodafone store and check the demo models. Check with the staff so their not wondering why your tapping in their in house phones !

I have been using the Smart Ultra 6 for a few months now and I don't seem to have such a problem though. Perhaps you may want to get back to a vodafone shop with your receipt. If it is a defect, they will most probably very happy to swap a new device with you within a cooling off period.
My first Smart Ultra 6 had problems with the camera and they were really nice to change it to a new unit for me in the shop.
