Upgrade to Android Lollipop causes issues with existing apps

Can anybody help me out here ?

I have recently upgraded my Glalaxy S5 to the latest version for Android Lollipop.

Everything is working fine except the hard-wired app called Vodafone Updates.

Periodically I get a message telling me Vodafone Updates has stopped working - which is a pain.

I am on the ltest version of Vodafone Updates - version 5.2.3.4

This app cannot be removed as it is supplied with the handset by Vodafone who are my network provider.

Any ideas as this is starting to get on my nerves.

Thanks

Colin.

Did you do a factory reset after the update?   It's possible that this will solve the issue.  If you don't want to bother with that, and there are no other issues, you could disable to app in Settings|Apps for the time being.  If you get an update to it, that may fix it and you could re-enable it then.

Hi,

I cannot be bothered with a dactory reset - why should I have the inconvenience of doing this when Vodafone do not check their apps to run on latest software.

Also, you cannot disable this app as the button to do this is greyed out.

Perhaps some kind soul from Vodafone has answer as it is their app causing the issue - all the other apps I have work fine.

Cheers anyway for the reply.

Colin.

In some circumstances (and this seems particularly to affect Samsung devices), some of the code from the previous OS hangs around and confuses the system.  A factory reset will normally clear this out and get you a clean running device.   That may be all it is.

I also suspect that restarting a device before updating may also help as it reduces the number of process and their associated caches that are around and may get in the way.  However, this will also depend on how many apps you have that load part of themselves at startup.

As I suggested, if the phone is running satisfactorily apart from Vodafone Updates, you could simply disable it in Settings.   Got to the main Settings menu, then Apps, then open Vodafone Updates and check the "disable" box if it's available (I have a SIM-free device, so can't check).
