VSS no 3G through FTTC/PPPoE

I need some help with my VSS. My line was upgraded to VDSL on Monday, and since then, although I get voice calls and text messages, I cannot get a 3G service through the VSS. It connects ok in that I have the right lights on the unit, and my Samsung Galaxy S2 shows the H symbol for the network, but no apps can get data from the internet.

Initially I was using the BT Openreach supplied CEI modem, going into the WAN2 port of my Draytek 2830 router. Now I'm using just a Draytek 2850Vn which supports VDSL directly, but I have the same problem.

I'm tried many different things:

1) port forwarding

2) hard resets of the VSS

3) I requested a a resync of the unit

4) adjusting the MTU size for the WAN port on the 2830 and 2850Vn (tried 1456, 1478, 1480, 1492,1500)

5) disabling IPSEC on the VPN remote access on the router to allow IPSEC capable devices behind the router to access the internet

6) UPnP is enabled

7) firmware is updated to latest version on the 2850Vn (3.6.3)

I've asked for help on the Draytek forum too, and will get in touch with Draytek support directly.

Vodafone, is there anything else I can try?

Hi mtcsltd,

When your broadband changed over the route between the Sure Signal and the Vodafone VPN servers will have changed.

Have you tried resetting the Sure Signal unit to force it to recreate the route?

you may also find some useful info in the Troubleshooting Thread

Nabs

Hi Nabs, yes I've done lots of resets.
At least I can make and receive calls, and send and receive texts, but having no 3g is a nuisance. Currently I leave wi-fi on, which is faster, but drains the battery pretty quickly.

I would probably get a reset forced at Vodafone's end as well then. One of the team will be able to arrange this for you. Are you able to post your SureSignal serial number?

It's a little unrelated but very strange, my phone's battery lasts a huge amount longer on WiFi! What handset are you using?

Nabs

My VSS serial number is 21196767152.

I have a Galaxy S2 with Jelly Bean 4.1.2. It's got three radios on all at the same time. Bluetooth, wi-fi, cell, so i'm not surprised it drains the battery. Without wi-fi it goes all day. I can't do without bluetooth which I need for handsfree calls.

Hi mtcsltd,

I can see that there is a location update detected on the Sure Signal registration.

I have updated this for you now and also re-synced the unit for you.

Please can you give this one hour and let me know if you see any difference.

James

Thank you for doing that James. Unfortunately it made difference. Still no 3G data.

It seems strange that its only affecting data. Could it be a faulty unit?

Hi mtcsltd,

Are you able to try another phone on your Sure Signal to see if it has the same issue?

Can you also try resetting the router and Sure Signal together?

 - Switch off Sure Signal

 - Switch off router

 - Restart router only

 - Once router fully rebooted, restart Sure Signal.

Dave

My wife also has a Galaxy S2, and we have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 (with sim card). They all have the same problem - no 3G data despite all lights looking normal on the sure signal and H appearing on the devices.

I've reset the sure signal multiple times in the order you suggested over the last week. Dozens of times actually, the last time being in the wee small hours this morning.
