Currently Vodafone would not give any information on Firmware Update or release information as per their Firmware Statement > Firmware Statement.
Best practice is to periodically check your phone software update section.
Do you keep your contacts in the phones memory or if possible your SIM card ? Try either although the sim option normally has limited space and basic information can be stored which is name and number and not much else.
Or do you keep them in gmail etc ?
May I ask have you tried backing up and Factory Resetting ?
