If using Vista, turn UAC (User Account Control) off, it is highly likely that it is preventing your network connection being written. The network connection is what is being referred to as the profile in this case.

Hi Henry1979,

Welcom to the Vodafone eForum Family. :D

Vodabusiness is spot on here, give what they have suggested and let me know if you need any further help.

Hi

I too am getting the same error as Henry, checked UAC, and it's off - any further suggestions?

Many thanks

Hi DawnP, welcome to the eForum!

So that I can get a better picture of what might be causing this rather than the UAC, can I get you to confirm a few details for me?

Firstly, can you confirm which versions of Vista and the VMC software you are running? Have you checked that you are running the most recent version of the VMC software?

Secondly, have you attempted to use the modem on a different computer and, if so, did you receive the same error? If not, what was different about the second computer, for example specific settings or operating system?

Thirdly, do you have anything running in the background, for example any RAS services, so that we can check if anything may be affecting this?

I look forward to your response, and I'm confident we can resolve this for you!

Hi Dave

I am running version 9.2.4.7868 of VMC. Vista Business SP1.

Have happily used this dongle on my XP laptop for couple of years, its just on this new vista machine its refusing to play ball. Still works on my XP machine no problems.

Not sure what you mean by RAS services - if you can clarify I'll certainly check.

I did read whilst trouble shooting that if Vista UAC is on it can cause a problem, so I've checked that, but its not switched on.

Hi DawnP,

Thanks for getting back to us with the information DaveN requested - much appreciated :)

This isn't something that I can recall seeing on the forum before, so I've asked one of our VMC experts to let me know what can be done to get this sorted out - if anyone knows then it'll be them!

If you can bear with me in the meantime that would be great - I'll re-post back on this thread with some further information as soon as I've heard back.

Thanks :)

Hi Dawn,

As promised I've got a solution for you, any chance you can give this a go and let us know how it goes?

- Right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.
- Double-click Services and Applications, and then double-click Services.
- Double-click Telephony.
- On the General tab, click Manual next to Startup type.
- On the same screen click on Start button to start up the Service and the Service Status should change to Started.
- Repeat steps 3 - 5 for the Remote Access Connection Manager Service and for the Remote Access Auto Connection Manager Service

If the service still doesn't want to start after the above has been modified then it may indicate a deeper problem within your Operating System, but let us know either way and we'll see what we can do from there! :)

All the best,

MatC

Hi,
I have the identical problem to the above and have done all the things that you suggest. Telephony starts OK but Remote access and remote connection return "error 1068 the dependency service or group failed to start".
Like Dawn I am running Vista Home fully updated. I tried the dongle on an XP machine & it worked OK but displays the same problem on another Vista machine. Can you help?
