If you don't have insurance then with respect, you're pretty well stuffed. It will probably be a big mistake and waste of time taking it to Vodafone for them to send it off for repair, probably to an Apple repair centre anyway and take half a lifetime chasing progress. Your best bet in my opinion would be to either take it to your freindly phone doctor to see if he can do anything or do a Google search to find an Apple customer service number and ask them. I think that your 'what now?' would be, buy a new phone and get insurance on it through your independant or house insurance. Next time you're washing your car don't have your phone in your top pocket when you bend over the bucket to squeeze out the sponge!

It might be worth taking your receipt for the phone with you, you may be asked to provide a 'proof of purchase' or 'proof of ownership' before they'll look at it or if the insurance would pay out.
