Why is VF router disconnecting from internet when I try to add Powerline adaptors?

I have just moved from BT (with BT Hub router) to VF broadband.  On my BT set up, I had successfully used a dlan network of 3 Devolo Powerline adaptors to connect devices some distance from the router with both Ethernet and local wifi hotspots.  However, when I try to attach my Powerline adaptor to the VF router, the router disconnects from the internet completely and I have to reset the router to re-establish my internet connection.

I have reset the Powerline adaptors to factory reset; I have also bought a different set of adaptors (TP).  They have the same issue.

Has anyone else had problems attaching Powerline adaptors - and found a work around?

There is another user experiencing dropouts in this thread. The suggestion there seems to be to switch off the UPnP feature in the router which appears (user still monitoring) to have fixed the issue. Might be worth a try for yourself?
