If you do a full factory reset on the device (from within the UI) then boot into recovery mode, then it should set the CSC automatically to VOD.

It never used to be, but it could be different now?
The last Samsung phone I flashed was a Galaxy S3.

A lot of the "dialer codes" don't work anymore because of security fears. The csc changer might not work now?

This piqued my curiosity, so I had to do some digging as I haven't flashed anything since my S4 (I was perfectly happy with what Samsung produced so had no urges to change it which is very unlike me).  It looks like CSC Changer won't work unless the devices is rooted.

 

Also, as you said, the dialer codes also don't seem to work any more.
