galaxy s5 overheating and powering off

My S5 has been getting hot for about 4 months but last week it over heated to such an extent that the device powered off by itself.

I have allowed it to rest with the battery our but every time I do turn it on, it is overheating within a few minutes.

Is this supposed to happen?

No it certainly isn't. It clearly needs a repair. Either take it to a Vodafone store to be sent away or (the better option) take it to a Samsung repair centre.

I've googled "samsung galaxy s5 overheating" and their is quite a few returned hits with tips on how to self diagnose. Worth a look ?

But it as said by jeffkin it is best to get the handset checked out .
