Do you mean that your phone has a SIM in it but is claiming not to have? In the first instance, take the SIM out and rub the contacts gently wiht a soft cloth. If that doesn't work, try a replacement. The quickest route is via a Vodafone shop, who can also activate it for you. If it's still a problem, the phone will need to go for repair and the shop can help with that too.

In that case, try a replacement SIM. Although they're generally reliable, they do fail from time to time and getting another one won't cost you anything. If you're in a shop, ask about repairs. Vodafone cover your device "for the life of your contract", though I've never been sure whether that's the initial period or as long as you go on paying for it. If you can't get a repair, you are at least able to upgrade.
