Hi guys, i have a vodafone k3565 rev 2 mobile usb stick. When i first got it it worked a treat. then i took it to florida and connected to tmobile, which promptly sucked all of my credit. I probably shouldn't have but i did just to see, it probably shouldn't have connected but it did!

Anyway, ever since coming back to the uk i can't connect on either my laptop or netbook. i have vmc lite on the netbook and 9.4 on the laptop both on xp. there's only a couple of quid in credit but all i get is ras error 619.

i've unistalled vmc a couple of times but this changes nothing.

can you help?

Hi there Dazthephot, and welcome to the eForum! :P

Shame to hear about your Florida experience, but sadly this will be the case when roaming abroad :(

I suspect the connectivity issue might even be linked to this. RAS 619 is a pretty generic error - can you provide any more details than that? Please tell us:

- What light your modem flashes (single / double blue / green etc...)
- Have you tried conencting via the Start > Connect To option?
- If you've considered uninstalling the VMC's, rebooting and installing from scratch?
- What happens if you try the SIM in a mobile phone - can you connect to the internet?

Please let us know! I'm sure we'll get to the bottom of this in no time!

Hi eforum team, thanks for responding and the welcome.

i have torn my hair out over this but have had a satisfactory result.

i have tried re-installing the vmc, working in 3g as well as 3g, i always had a signal and the vmc always saw the network. i have tried the device in other machines and i have tried the sim in another device (pcmcia type)....no joy.

i tried popping into the hull branch and speaking to a very helpful guy (craig) who tried everything i had which left only one conclusion, that the device was faulty.

under the terms of the guarantee i had the device swapped (incidentally for another of the old rev2 type) low and behold after uninstalling the old vmc, removing all trace from my registry and using ccleaner to fix and errors, then re-installing the vmc from the new dongle i was connected immediately.

conclusion - poor quality hawei dongle.

many thanks

Firstly thanks dazthephot for this post, this is exactly what has happened to me after trying my dongle abroad, which I now realise was a mistake.

As described I have tried uninstalling, installing the new version, changing ports, trying on a phone etc to no avail.

Admin, is it correct then that I should be able to get a replacement dongle? Where can I find the terms relating to this?

thank you

Hi returnButton

The replacement / return procedure for a USB modem is exactly the same as it is for a mobile phone. Check out our Repairs thread, which gives you all the information you require.

Let me know if you have any further issues.
