Solution

re-installing VMCLite

Something called Software Manager on my laptop suggested there was an upgrade available to mobile connect and so, like a fool, I loaded  Vodafone Mobile Broadband software  - v10.1.108.

Nothing worked so I uninstalled and reloaded the software from the USB stick.VMCLite V3.2.2.1

But although it installs when I try to open the client nothing happens.

The USN stick flashes blue so there is power and a signal.

Any ideas?

Hi ClaytR01,

Firstly, I would like to wish you a very warm welcome to the eForum.

It sounds like this hasn't installed correctly, or there is some sort of conflict on the computer.

I would suggest removing any VMB products from computer, followed by a restart. Once you have done this, then install the VMB form either your USB stick, or our Mobile Broadband support page and this should resolve the issue.

When I try to download and install from the support page the installation runs but then rolls back and just says that the installation was interupted.

Installing from the USB stick appears to work but clicking on the icon and  launch client has no effect.

There must be something that needs to be unistalled but it is not obvious what.

Regards,

Richard

Frankly, I quake at the thought should my installation (since November last year) go wrong. You can't simply uninstall the software and then try and install again from the dongle. A lot more ###### around is required. Thankfully, I have a restore point but that means restoring the computer to a time late last year and I don't know what effect that would have on my windows updates and virus definition updates I have done since then.

Hi ClaytR01

I'm sorry to see this is still an issue for you.:(

If you do have a system restore point before you installed the VMC update, then restoring to this would be a good option.

Do you get any error codes when the install fails, or the VMC Lite program fails to start?

I can see you've had issues installing the latest VMC software, but have you tried installing an older version?

It would be worth a try, and you can download all the older versions of VMC and VMC lite directly from our website.

Let me know how you get on with this.

Regards

No obvious errors messages.

The installation seems to stop a few seconds after "Starting Services" and it goes into rollback.

If it is of any hep the Event Log shows:

The PCASp50 NDIS Protocol Driver service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

Followed by

Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the Vodafone Mobile Connect Service service to connect.

Hi ClaytR01,

Thanks for posting. The error that you've posted isn't a good one unfortunately, it indicates that Windows can't find a necessary file required for this type of installation. In order to resolve this, I'd recommend rolling Windows back to a previous restore point as mentioned by HHGTTG. If you're not sure of how to do this, I'd strongly recommend seeking IT support for your PC.

I had similar problem, reinstalling from CD. Solved it by changing the phone number in Vodafone Mobile Connect properties (in Control Panel, Network Connections) back to *99***1# which I found out by looking at another (working) machine.

The old version of the sofware is so much faster!

First: install windows updates.

Second: put in hand all the services you disabled. (control panel -> administrative tools -> services)

third: install the latest version of the vodafone software.

My I have been solved so.

sorry my poor english :Smiling:
