Hi all I recently moved to Vodafone after having been on TalkTalk for a couple of years. Instead of sticking with them, I thought I’d switch to VF to get the WiFi 6E Ultra Hub, however I have regretted it ever since

It Seems to have become somewhat more stable since doing a few reboots/disconnecting the line for a while, as suggested from VF support, however there are still loads of intermittent faults

Sometimes this is:

  • whole router turning off
  • certain devices losing the network (especially 2.5Ghz ones. Thing like my ring doorbell just not working for large periods and then randomly reconnecting
  • Internet working fine on multiple devices but will then freeze up on one of them (the device changes, one minute it will be my phone, next it will be the PC etc… usually disconnected from the wifi on the device and then reconnecting works
  • I have a number of Sonos products and I’ve had to reconnect them a number of times (to begin with they didn’t work at all, until I changed the password on the wifi (for a second time)

like I say, it seems to have got better since the first few weeks, but is still awful compared to what I had previously

when I look at the event log, I have no idea what I’m looking at, but there.l are loads of “errors”, but i have no idea what any of them mean. This morning has been ok actually, other than it freezing up on some devices but this is a snippet of the log:

The major problem I can see is the router turning itself off. The closest you should get to this is a reboot. Tutnjng off indicates a fault with the router or it's power supply. This should be raised immediately with vodafone via

https://vodafone.co.uk/bbservcd

A lot of the others are just normal indications - like trying to access IPv6 when it's not available. You can disable IPv6 on the router to quiet those.

Other messages from the firewall are just that. They're not faults, just indications that dodgy connections from the Internet have been dropped.

Brilliant, thanks! I’d suspected some/all would be normal things listed as “errors”, but there’s definitely something been going on.

ill try reporting it via your suggestion, cheers!

Just for an update, I spoke to VF again, who said they couldn’t see any issues with the Event log and that it was 100% working as far as they could see

They formally told me weeks ago there is a known firmware issue with this router and there will be a new one and it's 'coming soon'. Couldn't tell me when. The current one is 22.1.0515-6261033 and the Pro-II router is flakey.

There is no point that I'm handing out extra for the 4g backup as if the router decides as it does every week to reset itself (in the settings as 'System Self') then there isn't the option of 4G backup as it doesn't perform a switchover as its rebooting itself! Useless

I smell a steaming pile of farmyard byproduct. If there's a firmware issue there'd be a lot more customers posting to complain.

70% of faults on Vodafone are caused by poor provisioning, pure and simple. The rest are openreach/Cityfibre problems.

900+ fttp for years with BT, faultless, never failed over to 4G backup and router was solid.

Now every single week the Pro-II Router resets, poor streaming on occasions and the only thing that has changed is the router.

Been through 2 resets with them on the phone and they finally told me a firmware issue. I'm not sure what more the provisioning team can do though.

I know of 3 customers who don't use this forum with the same issue as me...they did all move from BT though and we use Openreach.

I came to Voda to save money but my wife believes and I agree that we should have never moved to Vodafone.

Anyway...I have to put up with weekly resets unless somebody knows if the Ombudsman have cases against Vodafone.

I told tech support I'll put up with the resets until the firmware update but when it resets primetime tv and mid work conference call where I'm presenting then it starts to grind.

Hi, looks like you're problem is similar to mine. I just posted to another thread on this forum but the summary is that the Ultra hub router reboots most days, support have been useless, and they tell me they have no replacements in stock. I said I would leave, they tell me that will cost over £200. So currently stuck and looking for ideas.

I’ve spoken to them a number of times since my original post and they’ve tried a few “Firmware updates” and other stuff (amongst generally being useless)

It’s better than it was in terms of a lot of the problems I was having, but the router still reboots multiple times a day. I’m considering just shelling out for a different router at some point and then binning off VF at the first chance I can. That’s presuming they allow me to use a different router

I think I've seen another thread on here where someone recommends alternative routers, and I've also seen an explanation of how to connect. (Although if I recall correctly it involves contacting VF, so that doesn't sound very appealing right now!)
