Hi Folks,
Please, could you help me get my broadband running?
We have two openreach sockets in the house, one is in the living room and the second is in the main bedroom. Both sockets are NTE5A with test sockets and hardwired internally and not from the faceplate.
The socket in the living room.
- Has 2 sets of wires.
- Set 1 blue is connected to socket’s A and set 1 white blue is connected to socket’s B.
- Set 1 orange is crimped to set 2 blue and set 1 white orange is crimped to set 2 white blue.
The socket in the bedroom
- Has only 1 set of wires.
- blue connected to A and white blue to B.
We do not have a landline phone so I cannot check the dialtone etc.
When I connect the the broadband router to the socket in the bedroom (1 set of wires), the broadband works okay. However, when I connect the router to the socket in the living room (2 sets of wires), the internet is off. We want to leave the router in the living room as the wifi spread is better.
Please could you advise how I can resolve this issue?
Many thanks,
RA

Even an OpenReach engineer is unlikely to try to diagnose this for your remotely, and OpenReach REALLY don't like people tampering with the master socket - whichever that is! And your problem is that they could both be master sockets for different lines (possible the bedroom has previously been used as a home office?).
Honestly, your best bet is to get Openreach in to sort the problem out, and there is going to be a charge!
