Latency and Drop out issues

For a number of days now I found myself being kicked from game servers and had frequent crashes while gaming online. I also had similar issues trying to work from home.

I decided to investigate as the vodaphone tools always said that everything was fine. I started by downloading a chrome extension called "Internet Connection Monitor" (Would recommend) and ran it.

I was terrified by what was reported back to me. I was getting dropouts on a regular basis. Often multiple times in a single minute. It also reported that there where major issues with latency. It would hover at maybe 20 ms for a while then shoot up to >1000 and then back down. I have also tried running speed tests on my connection. It shoots up to 80 or so Mbs then suddenly it throttles down to about 30/40 Mbs.

I checked the router logs to be confronted by a ton of errors, none of which I understand.

Can anyone shine a light on what may be happening? I have restarted the router e.t.c and that has had no noticable effect. It is utterly of no real use at the moment and trying to get through to support stresses me out so much I feel like screaming.

@TheDiamond Which type of broadband do you have, FTTC or FTTP?

A browser while giving an indication doesn't isolate issues on the LAN. Can you access the router and post the line statistics? Are there any errors in the log? It may be useful to go to the Think Broadband site and setup a BQM and collect data for while. Do you know which Vodafone gateway you are connected to?

Meanwhile there have been posted comments that there are engineering works going on and you may be caught up with that.

These are some of my stats for the last 19 hours or so:
Disconnects, today: 41
Availability, today: 99.74%
Downtime, today: 0:02:45
Disconnects, total: 57
Availability, total: 99.73%
Downtime, total: 0:03:07
Here is the log of a couple of drops that have happened recently:

I am stumped. 😞

My DSL status is disconnected.

What does that actually mean?

I can't see anything in your log that looks like a disconnect.

It means that the router is reporting that is has lost contact with the street cabinet.

Check the cabling from the router to the master socket, try with the router in the test socket.

If no problems there it sounds like the Openreach line has a intermittent fault.

Report it to Vodafone, they should call out Openreach

If that is the case then how come I still have internet?

I was wondering about that too, which is why I suggested the tests you could do online.

Are you on Pro or Pro II? It may be the dongle that is supplying the internet.

Edit: Or are you on full fibre?

I am on fibre but an not sure what you mean by Pro or Pro II.

I wqas not provided with a dongle by vodafone. It is just an over the counter device which has workef dine for the lat month or 2.

I hate vodafonev and wish I had never joined.

How much do vodafone charge for leaving early? I want out.

Now I am totally confused as the what service you have.

Fibre is either FTTC (Fibre to the cabinet) or FTTP (Fibre to the property), Which do you have?

Pro and Pro II are upgraded services that supply Wi-Fi boosters and mobile backup.

What is this "over the counter" device you speak of?
