SSH between LANS

I have a Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub and I want to connect another router to the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub (LAN to WAN ports) to create two separate LANs. I assume that this will work.

However I need to be able to SSH from my laptop on LAN1 (the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub) to my server on LAN2 (the other router).

I do not want to open up port 22 to the Internet on the Vodafone WiFi Hub, is this going to be possible?

Set-up a VPN tunnel that you can connect to from your side to the other side. Make sure the subnets don't conflict when you do this.

This is a bit of a brain teaser - *I had about a page of A4 written before realising I could have been going off on entirely the wrong tangent*.

It would help to know what you are trying to do (why, what is your goal), rather than how you are trying to do it!  I suspect that the VF modem/router is not going to be the easiest device to include in such a setup.

*Complexity in networking can often open up more security holes than it closes - just a thought!
