Analogue Landline phones not compatible with Vodafone Power Hub Wifi 6 Hub? Is this true?

Hi,

Please could you help me?

Had a new fibre/landline connection installed and have a Vodafone Power Hub Wifi 6 Hub. The internet is working fine, all lights green on the back (inc telephone). Have checked all cables, reset the box several times, and Vodafone confirm my landline is fully activated. I have a phone connected but its an "analogue" phone. (My brother has an analogue phone connected to his BT Fibre router without problem btw). Here's my problem:

*I can call my landline on my mobile and you can hear it ringing, but the lines are dead. No dialtone on the handset.

* Vodafone have confirmed the phone line is fully activated. They've also "rang the router" and have observed a flashing green light.

* Their advice is that you need to upgrade your phone to a "digital phone".

My ask to the forum is - is this right? There was no mention of this when I took out the contract and zero mention of it in the manual for the router. The guy from Openreach said that our phones should be fine. The lady from Vodafone said the phone (despite it being a brand new analogue phone bought from Amazon only needs to be upgraded to a "digital phone". There was uncertainty though, they really were not sure if there was a fault still on the line, despite it being fully activated. When you call the line, the green "phone" light flashes on the back of the router - so it's just the phones that are not working.

Please may I ask for some advice? Has anyone else had this problem? Would the solution be a "digital phone"???

Thanks a lot

Julian

From what you say it does sound like the router is faulty.

There is really no such thing as a specific "digital phone". there are DECT phones and VoIP phones, plus combinations of the two.

But there is no getting away from the fact the TEL connections on the Vodafone routers are deigned to take the standard BT type analogue input.

Well after another 45 mins on the phone to vodafone, they seemed to infer that whilst the phone line had been connected, "the porting is still with the old provider".  The lady wasnt cast iron about this but uttered those words. Seems to me this means talk talk (old provider) haven't fully relinquished the phone line. Could this be causing my problem??

Unlikely, if the phone led on the router is flashing when you ring the number. (but who knows?)

Well, miracle of miracles....the rhino adapter from amazon solved the problem and i am connected!! From a technical pov, i really cannot understand why as i tried the RJ11 to RJ11 cable supplied with the router directly to the phone and that didnt work. There must be some magic going on in the rhino adapter!!!!!

Where did the first adapter come from?

I'm inclined to suspect your adapter, where did you get it?

The "magic" is in the original cable that is fitted to the phone. Some phones use a different pair of pins at the phone end. The original cable connects them to the correct pair on the BT style plug.
