No data while on call

Previously while on calls I have been able to use data, but recently it seems this isn't the case, which is causing issues when on calls when commuting with things like Waze not updating.

I am currently using a iPhone 15 Pro, is there a setting that I'm missing or is this just how Vodafone works now?

Hi @vincepettit. We understand how concerning this must be. To firstly make sure that we're on the same page, does the 4G or 5G icon disappear when you answer a call? 

Sorry to jump onto this post but I'm also having this same issues. When I receive a call my Google maps will go offline and get no internet connection. I'd then get no notifications for the duration of the call. 

 

The "4g" symbol will disappear and "gprs" will come up. 

 

Ive ordered a NON Vodafone sim and stuck it into the sim slot and there seems to be no issues with it when being on a call and using data.

Just want to check the phone you're using is purchased from the UK? Also make sure it's on their phone supported list, you can check this on their website with your imei number. I do know that for some bizarre reason, Vodafone won't allow and support data and calls at the same time (VOLTE) with phones that don't meet their specific criteria. I've had this pain in the past and many others have on here. I'd never heard of this before moving to Vodafone that that are very particular with who can use VOLTE or as they call it 4G calling.

If you've bought the phone from Vodafone and it's on their supported list then apologies for jumping in but since I've had this issue in the past wanted to share my story incase it helped you.

Thank you so much for sharing this information. I’ve been having an absolute nightmare for the past 2 weeks dealing with Vodafone, and no one mentioned anything like what you’ve just pointed out. I bought an S24 Ultra 1TB directly from Samsung and ported out to Lebara. The data didn’t work since they piggyback off Vodafone, so I ported back to Vodafone. That was a complete mess because they promised my account would be reinstated, but it wasn’t. They forced me to take out a new SIM, which turns out to be limited to the 4G network only.

I don’t mind that, but my data keeps dropping. After escalating a serious complaint, they’re migrating me to Voxi, which is also Vodafone, so VoLTE isn’t going to work, is it? I’m going to face the same issue if the backend is Vodafone.

It’s beyond frustrating that after all this time, no one in customer service knew this. It’s absolutely crazy.

Thanks again for sharing this info, Lee. I can’t wait until the morning to call them and address this. Also, where can I check compatibility with the IMEI number on their website? I can't locate it. It's clearly evident VoLTE isn't working as when I plugged in a Giffgaff SIM card, the VoLTE options appeared in the network settings. It's all starting to make sense now.

I've actually checked this in the last couple of days. I remember now thinking that if it's partially compatible, then Vodafone needs to activate something and presumed all would be well, and that I just needed Vodafone to sort it out. However, I missed the small print below. I cannot express how utterly frustrated I am with Vodafone. I'm completely exhausted by their incompetence. You telling me they were all unaware ... Unreal...

It seems I'll need to switch to a different provider, making my migration to Voxi a waste of complete waste of time. My complaint with the specialist care team is still open I'll be having words first ting..

Thankfully, I stumbled across all this information and I'm lucky in a way I'm bouncing to Voxi as I can bounce out via PAC and just imagine I tied myself into a 24 month contract.. This is all a blessing! Trust me!

A huge thanks to Lee, the only person on the entire planet who provided this vital information which seems to be suppressed everywhere. It just goes to show how utterly incompetent and lacking in knowledge the customer service reps over at Vodafone are, from 1st line, tech support & specialist care.. They should be ashamed. I paid £1600 for my phone directly from Samsung, have been with Vodafone for over 10 years, and this is the way I'm treated. . I'm absolutely furious and glad to be moving away now.

It took me hours of reading through forums tonight to stumble across this information. I'm incredibly grateful I kept reading and didn't go to bed earlier, or I would have never found this.

So yeah, probably due to the fact that my phone was purchased directly from the Samsung Experience store and you know why, because I got a much better deal than buying it directly with Vodafone and look , you're screwed over as a result! Absolute jokers I swear! 

I got mine through Vodafone so should all be ok, think it is likely the network itself, it's been garbage since the switched of 3G to prioritise 4G/5G

Lack of data on calls is a good sign of 2G. Whether that's through lack of 4G coverage, or a VoLTE issue - is another question.

VF are particularly picky with allowing VoLTE use on phones they've not supplied, as I see another poster has already mentioned.
