WIfi Calling and VoLTE keep failing to work – Galaxy 21 Ultra

Hi I am having a very frustrating problem with my new Galaxy 21 Ultra in that the WIfi Calling and VoLTE will only work a limited time and then both stop working.

The only way to then get them to work again is to reboot the phone,

After a reboot they both work again straight away.

They seem to stop working when I have been traveling around.

If I stay at my home location for a few days then they generally stay working but as soon as I move locations, they, at some point, will stop working again and the phone has to be rebooted.

I previously had a Note 9 for approx. 3 years and never had any issues with the Wifi Calling or VoLTE working.

I have spoken to Vodafone Customer Services on 191 a number of time and nobody seems to know how to fix this.

They have suggested carrying out a network reset, which did not help.

They have also deleted and re-enabled Wifi Calling and VoLTE on my account, this did not work either.

I have  the Wifi Calling option under call settings which is turned on.

When both services stop working, I have tried toggling the Wifi Calling option, a Network Reset, Airplane mode and back, de-selecting from the Voda network then reselecting again and nothing will make the Wifi Calling and VoLTE work again apart from a reboot of the phone.

Interestingly I don’t have the VoLTE option under network settings (or Icon when its working), although I never had these either on my Note 9 and VoLTE worked perfectly on this phone.

I also spoke to customer services about this and they said that they would send the OTA config to enable the VoLTE option as it definitely should be there, but this did not enable the option.

(When I first got the phone the Wifi Calling OTA config was also sent and this worked enabling the WIfi calling option successfully)

Should this VoLTE option and Icon be there?

I have also spoken to Samsung Customer support about this and they say there is no known software issue and all they can offer is sending the phone back to them to “re-flash the software” which would mean me being with out my phone for up to 30 days!!

I do not think it is acceptable to be sending back a 6 week old phone to the manufacture to be “repaired”.

The Wifi calling and VoLTE options are very important to me and the reason I purchased the phone though Vodafone to make sure these functions were supported.

Can anybody advise please?

My issue looks to now be resolved as it has been working correctly for a number of weeks now, but I can’t be sure exactly what fixed it.

A number of weeks ago Vodafone carried out a full disconnect and re-provide on my line, but, around the same time my phone also received an OTA software update. (I think it was the 2nd or 3rd OTA update received since owning the phone)

I can’t remember now which one was first, but after a few days of both of these things happening Wifi calling and VoLTE suddenly stopped failing.

I personally think it was an issue with Vodafone’s variant software on the S21 not working correctly with their network and the software update was what did the trick but I can’t be totally sure.

Did you purchase your phone though Vodafone?

I was also posting on Samsung’s forum and other owners of the S21 Ultra on Vodafone who had purchased their phone direct from Samsung didn’t have the issue (their phones would have Samsung Stock firmware)

Your problem certainly sounds exactly the same as I was experiencing, so can only suggest requesting Vodafone carry out a full disconnect and re-provide on your line and see if that helps.

Hope you get it resolved as it was driving me nuts!

Hi guys, I've been having the same issue with a Galaxy S20FE on and off over a couple of years!

It happens when the phone has been on Wifi calling (I have no signal inside at home) and is then taken out to somewhere it received a mobile network signal. Then on returning indoors it fails to connect to Wifi calling (other wifi reliant Apps work fine). BUT is only does this sometimes!

Th first you know is when someone messages you to say your calls are going straight to voicemail, or you try to me a a call and get "Not registered on network".

Turning off and on wifi sometimes makes it reconnect, but other times you have to reboot the phone.

I've had no luck getting vodafone to understand the issue, let alone resolve it, and they don't believe it's not an isolate incident.

Other than swamping social media with complaints highlighting the issue  don't know what to do!

I've had the exact same issue on my (Moto Razr+). WiFi calling on Vodafone works fine for a while, then stops. Toggling the "Use WiFi calling" setting sometimes re-enables it, but not often. A full reset of the phone fixes it. It's not the phone, because I use various eSIMs in the device (from 3, EE etc) and WiFi calling works consistently with those SIMs.

I think Vodafone's WiFi calling setting is just a bit flaky TBH. If you speak to them, they'll just say things like "Make sure WiFi calling is enabled" and "Maybe you weren't on WiFi" or "Perhaps you should factory reset your phone". It works for a while, then fails. It's clearly a problem at their end and based on this forum, it's been the case for years. It's an important feature for me so I'll be switching to EE soon. (They also have an option to "Prefer WiFi calling", which Vodafone don't offer).

You're replying to a thread that's nearly 4 years old. Things have moved on a lot, we don't see many people complaining nowadays. I would suggest starting a new thread with more details.

It may be nearly 4 years old, but things haven't moved on with the issue and vodafone is still flaky with WiFi calling, particularly when there is the minutest whiff of a GSM signal.

Probably seeing less complaints as previous ones haven't been resolved and it's pointless wasting more time with vodafone on it.

If there was an EE signal in my area I would have moved to them years ago, specifically because of this ongoing issue.
