We all like to sit back and remember the "good ol' days", now with the summer holidays well underway, let’s share a little about what we remember as a child and going on holiday.
Was it a magical adventure full of fun, or the dread of fighting it out with your brothers or sisters on who got the top bunk?
I always loved going on holiday to Hunstanton, Great Yarmouth and venturing up Beeston bump.
I’ll always remember the rickety old wooden roller coaster at Great Yarmouth, the snail ride I’ll always hold close to my heart - walking down the seafront eating cockles and the smell of fresh doughnuts
Where did you go, what did you enjoy?
Let’s share some memories!

I always used to enjoy the dodgems at Bognor Regis right up to the day I pitched forward onto the steering wheel and broke my tooth. :smileysad: I still remember the funfair as a magic place, though.

Ouch!
@hrym a broken tooth, that’s a little extreme.
I love the funfair and always begging to go to the circus.

I broke the other one cheating at 3-card brag on the bus some years later. :smileysad::smileyembarrassed:
If anyone else has some positive memories...

We had some great holidays as a family. My parents were big fans of cruises and I did 9 of those from the age of 7 to 15. On our first cruise on the Canberra we went across the Atlantic to New York and hit a hurricane half way across. I was too young to understand the implications but the ship nearly sunk.
As an adult my wife and I have carried on the tradition and we've taken our kids on lots of cruises. They are the perfect holiday for children of all ages - lots to do and very safe.

What ship were you on @Retired-Laura?

@jeffkinn - I went on the Island Escape.
It’s very informal and relaxing I spent a lot of time in the casino and I won a poker tournament.

I know the Island Escape well and have seen it several times. I haven't sailed on her but for a while I was the FD of the company that runs the shops on the IE and lots of other ships. Also my son worked on there for a while as a 'shoppie' as they're called.

I live by the seaside - Southend-on-Sea. Amazing as it is, people still come here on holiday. It isn't exactly St. Tropez but we do have the longest pleasure pier in the world.
