Please help.

I have had my credit score destroyed because of a dept with Vodafone that I'd no idea about.

Long story short when I switched providers my old and my new contracts overlapped and somehow I missed my final payment to Vodafone. I've also since moved home and started using a new email address and so I've missed any correspondence from Vodafone and so then had no idea I owed money.

This debt has ruined my credit score and I've been recently turned down for car finance which is awful on it's own but I'd hoped to be applying for a mortgage soon and so I'm terrified I'll be turned down for that too.

I've since cleared the debt and I of course take full responsibility for my mistake. Could someone please help me with this as I've tried in line chats and phone calls and I'm just going round in circles.  Please help

As there us no account access via this forum anymore I would suggest to engage with the Vodafone Social Media Teams via Contact-us-for-account-specific-queries as they have a Credit File Specialist Team who they can ask to investigate this for you @Seansouth

I appreciate from personal experience how damaging a default can be however if this is found to be warranted which if I'm honest I think it maybe then it will remain for 6 years from the original default date.

Paying the debt does look better as it shows as a settled debt.

I wish you all the best with this situation.

Thank you for the reply.

I get that I've made a mistake. It was a simple accident and to have this on my file for 6 years seems harsh and unproportional for a simple mistake and for the relatively small size of the debt.

I totally understand your viewpoint but when something like this happens the business involved has a duty of care to report such instances so that other businesses can make an informed decision to lend or not to the person who has defaulted @Seansouth

6 years is a long time but some businesses will still accept a person with a default in some circumstances.
