Hi. I've come on here because as I've only purchased broadband today. i can't login to my account yet, even though I've got an email saying I can, but after reading other posts I know why (so stupid) I've just got a text to say I've got an engineer visit booked for when my broadband goes live. Why do I need one? Surely it's just plugging in a router? Anyone know why this is? Cheers

Not knowing what services are already supplied to your home I'd hazard a guess at an fttp install - yes, that's the way they're going now even on the lowest tiers.
So I'd expect an engineer to come out and run a fibre to your property and install an ONT on the inside of the wall.

I've got broadband already and every time I've renewed/changed provider I've never had an engineer visit. I just get a router in the post and plug it in on the day. Just seems like a stupid idea. I'm even on fibre atm with a bt openreach box in my house.

Is your current service over fibre or via a bt phone socket?
Even if it's already on a fibre the engineer is still likely to attend to ensure the ONT is receiving light.

It's a fibre service but it must be coming through the phone line which is connected to the openreach socket (master socket 5c) it's just strange to get an engineer visit, normally just get the router with some instructions lol

That's fttc, fibre to the cabinet. The last section is through the standard phone wires.
So if fttp (fibre to the premises) is available on your street then it's likely a new fibre will be run into your home. An engineer would need access in this case.

When you signed up, was it to Fibre (FTTC) or Full Fibre (FTTP)?
Fibre plans:
Full Fibre plans:
When they say a engineer visit is booked, they may just carry out the necessary work at the cabinet and not actually come to your home.

Sorry, had to sleep. I signed up for fibre 2. Full fibre was definitely not listed at those prices otherwise I might of gone for that, if that included the voucher 2. That's why I don't understand the engineer visit.

You won't see both sets of options, only those offered to you. Even if FTTC is still available in your area, you will only be offered the FTTP ones on a new connection.
You probably won't see the engineer. They may give you a call to say they are about to carry out the work, and warn of a short downtime.
Hope it all goes well.

Thanx. Fingers crossed that's what happens 😁
