Possible full fibre broadband contract with Vodafone - help please?

Hello...

My current ISP contract with another provider ends at the beginning of May 2025.

I'm now considering in advance a new Full Fibre contract with Vodafone.

Currently, my ISP delivers around 150 Mbps for 'FTTC' but will soon be charging the same or more for 'FTTP'

Other than no-hassle to renew, it doesn't make economic sense NOT to go FTTP, since that seems to be the direction of travel for broadband now.

For other reasons, though, I won't be renewing with my current ISP.

I live in smallish home so don't need a lot of coverage. Two rooms/lounge - no upstairs, never a problem connecting.

Further, I very rarely have more than ONE device on at any one time. Either desktop or Smart TV.

I'd be happy with 150Mb for my needs.

So, a  few queries I'd appreciate help with:

1. I'm assuming Vodafone sends an engineer to my home to set things up with new router etc. Open Reach?...Yes/No?

2.  I prefer to use a desktop computer rather than laptop etc

Are there any specific computer requirements for FTTP to work?

3   I note  a Vodafone app is downloadable but is this an absolute 'must'?

Won't the FTTP connection simply link to my Desktop once I input the router password etc as has always been the case in all the time I've had broadband?

4  Am I right in thinking I now don't have to inform my ISP I'm switching?

a) Do I sign up with Vodafone ONLINE closer to contract end date and let them inform the ISP on my behalf?

Or

b) Do I have to actually PHONE Vodafone to arrange the switch?

Any comments or suggestions on the above would be appreciated and perhaps which Vodafone contract would best suit.

Many thanks

If you're getting 150Mbs on FTTC you must be on GFast, not that that will matter if you're going to FTTP.

To answer your questions:

  1. Yes Vodafone will arrange an engineer, either Openreach or CityFibre depending on which network(s) are available at your location.
  2. No there are no special requirements for the devices, they will connect to the router in the same way.
  3. No the Vodafone app is not a "must", I personally never use it, but it can give extra configuration options or a simpler way of viewing your network. If you are getting the Vodafone boosters, they are configured via the app.
  4. That is correct under the One Touch Switch (OTS) system, but if you don't get a "sorry you're leaving" message from your old supplier in few days after you sign up, Id give them a call. You can sign up on-line or over the phone, but on-line can get you vouchers or cash-back via comparison sites. Don't worry, Vodafone are just as capable of messing it up either way.

Choose whatever connection suits your needs and financial situation.

Good luck.
