Possible full fibre broadband contract with Vodafone - help please?

Hello...

My current ISP contract with another provider ends at the beginning of May 2025.

I'm now considering in advance a new Full Fibre contract with Vodafone.

Currently, my ISP delivers around 150 Mbps for 'FTTC' but will soon be charging the same or more for 'FTTP'

Other than no-hassle to renew, it doesn't make economic sense NOT to go FTTP, since that seems to be the direction of travel for broadband now.

For other reasons, though, I won't be renewing with my current ISP.

I live in smallish home so don't need a lot of coverage. Two rooms/lounge - no upstairs, never a problem connecting.

Further, I very rarely have more than ONE device on at any one time. Either desktop or Smart TV.

I'd be happy with 150Mb for my needs.

So, a  few queries I'd appreciate help with:

1. I'm assuming Vodafone sends an engineer to my home to set things up with new router etc. Open Reach?...Yes/No?

2.  I prefer to use a desktop computer rather than laptop etc

Are there any specific computer requirements for FTTP to work?

3   I note  a Vodafone app is downloadable but is this an absolute 'must'?

Won't the FTTP connection simply link to my Desktop once I input the router password etc as has always been the case in all the time I've had broadband?

4  Am I right in thinking I now don't have to inform my ISP I'm switching?

a) Do I sign up with Vodafone ONLINE closer to contract end date and let them inform the ISP on my behalf?

Or

b) Do I have to actually PHONE Vodafone to arrange the switch?

Any comments or suggestions on the above would be appreciated and perhaps which Vodafone contract would best suit.

Many thanks

If you're getting 150Mbs on FTTC you must be on GFast, not that that will matter if you're going to FTTP.

To answer your questions:

  1. Yes Vodafone will arrange an engineer, either Openreach or CityFibre depending on which network(s) are available at your location.
  2. No there are no special requirements for the devices, they will connect to the router in the same way.
  3. No the Vodafone app is not a "must", I personally never use it, but it can give extra configuration options or a simpler way of viewing your network. If you are getting the Vodafone boosters, they are configured via the app.
  4. That is correct under the One Touch Switch (OTS) system, but if you don't get a "sorry you're leaving" message from your old supplier in few days after you sign up, Id give them a call. You can sign up on-line or over the phone, but on-line can get you vouchers or cash-back via comparison sites. Don't worry, Vodafone are just as capable of messing it up either way.

Choose whatever connection suits your needs and financial situation.

Good luck.

Thanks to all above for taking time and trouble to reply. Much appreciated.

I do, however, have a few follow-on queries, if you wouldn't mind.

Switching to FTTP is all-new to me. Please forgive my ignorance, but I need to be clear in my mind about all this in advance.

So, please accept apologies for the length of this post.

Importantly, since my ISP end-date is early May, I'd want to have things in place sometime in April.

 1. 'Open Reach' Visit:

 a)  does the engineer fit some sort of box inside my home?

 b)  if so, does it connect wirelessly to the Vodafone router or via a lead?

 c)  will he bring the router or will Vodafone send it to me in advance of the visit?

 d)  on Activation Day, do I simply switch on router or 'router + box'?

 2. Online Sign-Up Process

a)  to ensure all will be in place by say, mid or end April, best time to start sign-up procedure?

 b)  during this, I take it they'll ask for my current ISP + landline number?

 c)  will they ask for end date of my ISP and then activate ON THAT DAY?

 c)  will I be able to set up Direct Debit > create 'My Account'?

 3. Activation Date:

 a)  will I actually receive this during ONLINE sign-up or later?

b)  will this be on the day my current ISP ends?  (see above)

c) on the day,  when do I 'switch on' router. Is there a 'waiting period'?

 4. Vodafone Phone Contacts?

 a)  How easy are Vodafone to deal with by phone if there's a problem?

 b)  If I have a problem on activation day or into my FTTP contract, what phone  numbers does Vodafone offer?

 Any freephone ones?

 c)  Is phone contact via UK-based or overseas handlers? Easy to understand?

5. Final point 😀: where exactly do I sign up?!!

As a 'test' today, I tried to 'sign up' via a number of switch websites.

Each time, clicking on 'Get Deal', all I got was a page detailing the £95 'Gift Card' that would come with my 'choice'...and no way of signing up!!! 🙄

Did I miss something?? Or are Vodafone just not 'playing with' these sites?

If not, can someone advise on this, as signing up online can be beneficial re: Gift Cards(!!!) etc

Once again, apologies for length of this post.

Many thanks to all in advance for their patience....

Wow, a lot of questions, lets take the last one first, you don't "sign up" on voucher sites, you let them take you to Vodafone and sign up there. The voucher site will use internet tracking technologies to ensure you do complete the sign up and are therefore eligible for the voucher.

As for question #4, there is a phone number but Vodafone prefer customers to use social media. A quick search of the forum will provide you with the details.

Hi Jayach...

You're right of course, that's what you'd expect to happen. I've done similar before and yes, you get to the site but for some reason in this instance, as I said, clicking 'Get Deal' gets you to Vodafone alright but nowhere to sign  up....just the 'Gift Card' display.! No sign up tab anywhere....Tried it again a short while ago...same result....Odd to say the least...but thanks anyway

Very strange, possibly it's your browser blocking the necessary functions, try another browser.

What if you use this link Vodafone - £100 Gift Card (note the link may be blocked by the forum spam filter)

Hi again Jayach....Tried your suggested link,  went to Gift Card page as before, this time showing £100!

Again, bottom left, clicking  'Complete your purchase via this link' produces nothing and I now anyway it's for you to purchase Gift Cards!!....LOL!

I don't have anything on my computer that's likely to block through-put, but tried the link in another browser....same result!😂

No doubt if I try signing up directly to Vodafone, all will load perfectly...Wonder why? So tried just that...and yes, no problem signing up....Enough said!

Altogether, this is not filling me with confidence about Vodafone if I can't even sign up from switching websites.

Out of interest, I tried signing up with a rival provider via these websites....Went straight to sign-up no problem, with 'benefits'...so can't believe I'm the only person experiencing this with Vodafone!

At least this does justify getting things checked in advance, no matter the amount of questions!😊 Thanks again for your tme...
