THG3000 modem mode

Hi,

Have recently had fibre Pro broadband installed with the THG3000 router.

The WiFi is so bad that I'm looking for alternative routers to provide WiFi.

Is there a way to set the THG3000 into modem only mode and then use a separate WiFi router?

Have tried a few routers I have around the place but none connect to the ethernet connection from the open rech fibre box.

Thanks for your help

I do need the phone service - it’s in case of an emergency, so the kids can call out.
They’re too young to have mobile phones.

Is there a way to get access to the phone service without having the Vodafone router connected?

Thank you!

I’m not a networking guy, so I’m going to need to spend some time going through the history of that post.
It also looks like I’ll need to buy one of those Grandstream devices.

Since I’m working from home and can’t afford to lose my internet connection, I’ll have to be careful about how/when I do this too. Plus, taking into account the WAF for any potential downtime!

I'm pretty good with networking, but VoIP is something I can't get my head around.

I hadn't heard that acronym before either, so had to look it up.

WAFWife Acceptance Factor (stereos/gadgets)

Haha…yes, WAF is important. I guess it could also be considered as FAF (Family Acceptance Factor). 😁

It looks like I’ll need to buy a Grandstream HT801 or HT-812 then, connect it to my Ubiquiti router (and set them both up using details from Vodafone).

Out of interest, does Pro II allow you to set the VF box to modem only mode?
I didn’t see anything about that in the details.
I’m going to lose access to my backup SIM dongle when I swap to my router, although maybe I could plug the dongle into a laptop and use that as a hotspot, in the event of problems.

Unfortunately, there is very little info on the PRO II router, but I very much doubt it will have a modem mode.

There have been reports of the Wi-Fi dongle working when plugged into a laptop so that should be a possibility.

Thanks.

I’ll try the dongle in my laptop.

Out of interest, which device do you recommend: the HT801 or the HT812?
I’m planning to use my existing DECT phones, as I’m doing now with the VF device.

Bear in mind the dongle only comes with 50GB of data, and they won't top it up if your line isn't down.

I really can't advise on VoIP devices, hopefully someone else will be able to help.

The HG801 and HG812 are similar in price. The 801 has only one socket for a telephone whilst the 812 has two. Other than that virtually no operational difference so choose according to how you want to use it. There is a cosmetic difference too.

I chose the HG801.

Bought an HT801 and phoned Vodafone to get the VOIP details, but they only gave me the login and password for the router to connect to broadband.
They insisted that there is no way to connect a phone other than via their router, even though I pointed their rep to the other thread on the forum discussing how to do it… 😬

Exactly what information do I need to ask for and what should they be providing?

Is this what I need to configure the Grandstream?
