Hi,
Have recently had fibre Pro broadband installed with the THG3000 router.
The WiFi is so bad that I'm looking for alternative routers to provide WiFi.
Is there a way to set the THG3000 into modem only mode and then use a separate WiFi router?
Have tried a few routers I have around the place but none connect to the ethernet connection from the open rech fibre box.
Thanks for your help

But won't that will be double natting? What I.P. address are you giving the second router?
Ignore that bit. missed it was Lan to Lan.

@Jayach 2nd router 192.168.1.2 .... yes I make a typing error above. Well spotted, thanks.
2nd router should be 192.168.1.2 and it's DHCP starting at 192.168.1.3.

An interesting way to do it. the second router is basically an access point with DHCP built in.

@Jayach I used to do this because at each ISP change all I had to do was configure just one piece of kit.
I don't do it now as the router I currently use is adequate, if not great, and it lets me configure all the settings I am interested in (unlike the THG3000). I have pi-hole doing DHCP, DNS and blacklisting.

But with NAT turned off!

That's helpful and may the route I have to go if I can't get the HT801 going (see other thread)!!!
I am using Pi-hole for DNS (adblocking) which works really well!
😬🙄🤣

@andygard It's better to start a new thread than reply to an old one.

As you are on Openreach you probably won't use a VLAN, the ONT takes care of that.

Is 8.8.4.3 a typo - it is a DNS server, but I don't believe an open one!
In @Cynric 's example settings, you are kinda still in a double NAT situation, but in many cases and for many people (with simple networks and not gaming) this wont cause any problems. Your Asus router is always going to complain in it's logs about double-NAT. So I guess the next question has to be: What are the specific issues that are being created (Gaming, VPN, DDNS, etc)?

@Anders1 On the Asus is the Gateway set to 192.168.1.1? Turn off IPv6 everywhere.
