Ultra Hub and Super WiFi 6E booster

Hi All.

I plan on building a summer house but it's too far away from my Ultrahub to get a wifi signal.  Therefore, I plan on running a Cat6 cable to the building.  If I then plug in a WiFi 6E booster, will this give me a wifi signal in the garden house?  If not, what are the other options?

Cheers

@mmd040

Ethernet cable can run up to 100m, so unless you have a huge garden you should be OK. Make sure it's a weather-proof cable. Remember that some wildlife may take a nibble at it. At my last workplace squirrels got the blame for damage to the fibre link between two buildings. You may want to consider burying the cable within a protective flexible pipe.

If the summer house has mains electricity then you could look into PowerLine products. I am a bit of a fan of these, though to be fair there are other contributors who are not so keen on them, so as they say "your experience may vary".

Thanks Cynric.  I just wondered if it was possible to keep it 'in-house' by using the booster.  Thanks for the squirrel warning too!

@mmd040  Whatever you decide upon as your solution, please report back as I'm fairly sure that there are other readers here who have a similar situation, even if it's just the garden shed.

Hi Cynric

In the end I've decided to run Cat 6 to the shed and install a Netgear access point.  I already have the access point set up and it's working well in the house.  I'll let you know how it goes when the build is finished and the AP is in situ.

Cheers

Update.

The 'shed' has been in place now since June, and the Netgear access point is working a treat. The new wifi network runs at pretty much the same speed as I get in the house, which is great.

Thanks for coming back on that. Did you use a Netgear Access point because the VF Wifi 6E booster didn't work by connecting it to your router via ethernet?

Yes I did.

Ok thanks, sorry for being dumb but I haven't used access points like that before. Is the access point connected to your Vodafone router via ethernet and does it provide a wifi network in your shed, just with a different SSID to the one that your router provides?

I have it connected to my Ultra hub via a POE switch, and it works exactly the way you say.  Very straightforward to set up.
