Hi,

Seems like im not the only one  with issues with  VF modem, mine doesnt always like roku or firestick or even weirder  words by post app on phone, so I went to try another router the asus asus dsl n55u.

I have the pppoe user/pass and a vlan setting. I havent found the vlan and am struggling.  Would a kind soul with the dsl n55u explain exactly what settings I need to change? I will be hard resetting it first (not the hammer variety) first.

Thank you

Depending if your connection infrstructure is OpenReach (101) or CityFibre(911), see this link;

VLAN ID may be listed as 802.1q

The easiest way to setup an asus is to reset it. Next time you login you'll automatically be redirected to QIS (quick internet setup.

You are setting up on an fttc connection aren's you? There's a bit more to fttp connections on these dsl routers.

The Asus DSL-N55U is potentially problematic!

For a start it's an ADSL modem not VDSL.  So if you are connecting vai the phone line it's never going to work (unless you have an ADSL service rather than the more common VDSL).

If you have FTTP, you may have a different problem, because some varients don't allow you to use one of the LAN ports as a substitute WAN port!

And it's also a very slow router!

Hi,

Apparently it can do both adsl and vdsl.

I'm on copper lines so fttc.

It is on the list of what does work so just need to persevere, thank you for your assistance - this stuffs a challenge for a lay person like me :Smiling:

If you are on FTTC, you shouldn't need the VLAN, it's always 101. (in the UK)

The most likely problem is Vodafone have given you the wrong PPPoE credentials.

The DSL-N55U-A1/B1/C1/D1 is an ADSL only router - no vdsl as @CrimsonLiar stated. Who told you it had vdsl?

Secondly the WiFi is only 802.11n which would also cripple WiFi performance.

Thirdly this router is end-of-line. Indeed its ten years old and hasn't had a firmware update since March.

I was assuming they have this router:

DSL-AC55U|Modem Routers|ASUS United Kingdom

The comment was made for the OP, it's likely they've made the same mistake.

hi,

Thank you, mine is the 'n' so as the posters point out its no good, I will get one from the list, at least i've been told and learned stuff for going forward with the next attemp.

My thanks to everyone who assisted.
