I have spent hours trying to print. It was simple before I changed to Vodafone router.

I have now added a cable from printer to router. The router is listing the printer.

The Macbook Air is not seeing this printer- I open 'add printer and scanner' but it is not listed and does not find it when I search- but I am not really sure how to search.

Its so frustrating because the router, the Mac, and the printer all work, but I cannot print.

So if it was working wirelessly previously, I would presume that you have changed the network settings on the printer so that it connects to the new network?

Then with the printer connected to the router, you'll probably need to go through the installation even after following that process.

*I hope that Canon printers are a little smarter than some HP printers in this aspect!

before I had a vodafone router the printer was connected to the wifi and I could print from Macbook air.

Now I cannot print.

I have connected the printer to the router, and the router has listed it in the overview tab of its webpage.

But the macbook air cannot connect.

I think I need a cable from printer to computer?

You say you have connected the printer to the router and it is listing it.

But you also say you connected it to the router with a cable.

So is it listing it as a USB connected device or Wi-Fi connected device?

If the printer is Wi-Fi and has a WPS button/function, try using that to connect the router to the printer.

That Canon printer does have a WPS button. I'm presuming that the Macbook already has the Canon help app installed as it was in use before moving to Vodafone. My guess is that the printer hasn't connected to the router over WiFi and that if the USB is plugged into the router it is not being fully shared and at the same time the printer is preferring the active USB over the WiFi. I'd disconnect the USB and go through WPS pairing, making sure that the WiFi connection is established.

Virtually my experience with this pathetic company. In good faith I changed from EE to Vodafone on 25/06/24 & all went well until I suddenly realised I needed to connect my HP wireless printers which worked seamlessly with EE. There wasn’t a hope in hell that that that could be done with the super duper router that was described to me when talking to Vodafone! Unfortunately unlike you I didn’t realise this until after the 14 day cooling off period & I’ve ben quoted £180.23 to cancel the contract, even though their customer service has been naff after calling someone based in Egypt who spent over an hour messing me about only to suggest that it was the HP printers fault, which was simply wrong. I wish I’d never bothered with Vodafone broadband. The signal I get is great but if I can’t print wirelessly because of the inadequacies of their super duper router, I reckon the blood money cost of leaving to go to a broadband company who’s router is set up to accept wireless HP printing might prove to be worthwhile paying to leave for. I have no respect for Vodafone & would never recommend them after the grief they have caused me & my family!

@Bhm2trev  The new router may only be using the WPA3 protocol on WiFi and the HP printer wants WPA2. In the router settings turn on Compatibly Mode and you should see an extra WiFi presence on the router which the printer should be able to connect to.

Which printer?  Because of stupidity at HP, it can be better to completely uninstall the drivers, reset the printer and start from scratch, but it should be possible to do.  Depending on what I'm doing at the time my Smart-Tank printer is both the best, and the worst printer I've ever owned.
*If you've never updated the drivers to for your printer, it's an absolute must.  There are some serious flaws in some of the old drivers for my own printer - as I discovered.  If you do get it working DEFINITELY disable the ability to print by sending documents to it by email!!!
