WiFi Calling Whilst Abroad

Hi, Does it cost to use WiFi Calling whilst abroad. I'm travelling to Asia on holiday and would be nice if I didn't have to pay the £6 a day to call back to the UK. Thanks

@griff66 As long as mobile data is switched off and none of the roaming services are being used, Wi-Fi Calling should be completely free. Please be sure to check all settings relevant to Wi-Fi Calling before dialling, to ensure you won't be billed for the call. Josh

Hi @griff66, I'm sorry for any confusion that the previous message may have caused.

I've double checked this and as per our Wi-Fi Calling Ts&Cs, when abroad this service will be disabled as you'll no longer be connected to a UK network. This is to avoid any international charges that may be generated as the service is linked to your inclusive minutes.

In scenarios where this may be available to you while abroad, it would generate charges at our standard international rates as stated in section 12 of the terms.

I hope you enjoy your time in Asia and if there's anything else we can help with, please let me know.

I disagree.

You can use WiFi Calling through any WiFi as long as you put your phone on Airplane Mode and just switch on WiFi at the destination.

As  has mentioned, as long as you have not connected to a Network to indicate you are Roaming. I have done this

The only way to stop that is, Vodafone has list of UK IP addresses stored to not allow any outside that list to be used for WiFi calling.

The T&C's indicates that may be the case, but also means if you do get charged, tough luck.

11. The use of Wi-Fi Calling whilst roaming is prohibited and is not supported.. However, in certain circumstances it may be possible to enable Wi-Fi Calling whilst abroad and where used additional charges will apply.

12. If you’re a Pay monthly consumer customer and make calls over Wi-Fi to a mobile or landline number within the country you’re roaming in, your call will be charged at our standard international rates (business customers should check their standard international rates) and will be treated as a call from the UK to an international number. A pre-call announcement will play prior to connecting your call to remind you of this charge.

13. Unless we tell you otherwise, Vodafone EuroTraveller, Vodafone WorldTraveller and other international add-ons or international bundles won’t apply if you only make calls over Wi-Fi whilst travelling abroad. However, if you use data on your phone, or call or text UK standard mobiles not using Wi-Fi whilst travelling abroad, then any international bundle on your account will be triggered in the usual way.

Yes, agree, only Calls back to UK on WiFi calling will not be charged.

Any other calls will be charged same rate as calling from UK.

The only time it can be worth it is if you have an International Pack/EU Pack, then you can take advantage of that.

How about FaceTime, Skype etc. when using wifi abroad?

Those wouldn't be linked to your account and inclusive allowances, so should be fine - they'd just be normal data use.

Thanks!
