The VFD 200 has only ever been on an O2 contract and now I want to use the data included on that contract I have tried to connect to wifi and Vodaphone downloaded 17 app updates and then the phone is locked with emergency calls only. I need a NUC apparent.ly.  Where can I get one of those please?

Yes @BandOfBrothers

There is some confusion.

The OP mentions about using the phone on O2 and also needing an unlock code.  Also the phone only has a small memory (although can be expended with a memory card), those updates would have taken a lot of memory.

Thank you Band of Brothers that sounds about the most helpful think I have seen today.  Yes, I have only ever used it to do calls and texts.  No, I never increased the Memory and although my O2 monthly plan included DATA I didn't have a use for that until I bought a Samsung Fit e which will not work with my Tablet.  Should have had a Fitbit and I wouldn't be in this cul de sac.

Much appreciated

I have never been a Vodafone service client.  I began the contract with O2 where they set it up at the shop in October 2017 after buying it online from QVC on 8 March 2017. It was in the box for months until my old phone contract expired. I have details of all bills since Oct 2017.  I now have no access to my phonebook or photographs.

Hi @multiplybaffled

Have you tried asking these questions on the O2 Community?

If this turns out to be an O2 SIM issue they may be able to offer some help and advise.

You're very welcome @multiplybaffled

If a phones internal storage is too small to accept an update then it just won't proceed and instead you would get a please free up internal storage type of message.

This wouldn't result in a No Service being shown.

Also if this was my phone I'd also look at checkmend.com/uk to see if the phone was showing now as imei blocked which can result in a no service problem.

That or the internals of the phone could have failed.

Theres lots of variables I'm afraid with no easy answer.

Vodafone won't be able to help as it's not as you state not ever been used on the Vodafone network and they didn't supply the phone.

The onus is really on the seller / provider of the phone according to the Consumer Rights Act 2015 Here.

Does your o2 sim work in another phone ?

Thanks for the info.  I have another paygo with EE for emergencies but I don't want to mess that up by trying the sim in that.  I have secured an appointment with the O2 Guru for tomorrow and hope he can assist. Many thanks.

I know this is an old thread now and probably completely irrelevant but I think it's probably worth pointing out some information just for future reference for anybody that comes across this.  This phone was originally sold SIM unlocked by accident by Vodafone. Many people purchased it and used it with a non Vodafone SIM including my auntie. At some point it got a firmware update and as well as bringing some bug fixes they also enabled the SIM lock. which was very unfortunate for people who had purchased this with the intent of using it on another network.
