Huawei P20 notification tones

I've just upgraded to the P20 using the flexi-upgrade scheme as I have smashed the screen on my 7 month old Smart V8. I was very impressed that I could carry out the flexi-upgrade, and start a new 24 month contract, at no cost apart from the £9.00 upfront cost of the phone.

Anyway - my issue is with the stock Android Messenges app used for text messages, on the V8 I could assign different contacts their own message notification tone using settings in the Messenges app. However in the P20 version of the app the option to do this is not available in the settings so I am stuck with one notification tone for everyone.

Hasx anyone else with a P20 managed to assign notification tones to contacts? If not, can anyone suggest a third party messages app where you can, and preferably one that will not bombard me with adverts?

Hi @SimonWilding not got the P20 but had that problem after my work S7 updated to Oreo, had to use the Android Messages app and set that as the default messaging appapp t could set individual message alerts in that.

Thnaks, it's gthe Android Messaging app that I am using now, and used before. I could set individual notification tones on my V8 but not on my P20. I can only assume that Huawei have "tweaked" the app for their phones. Very annoying, now I have to look at the phone to ignore my mum rather than hearing her tone.....

@SimonWilding if you go into a message thread (from your mum !) Then tap the 3 dots, top right, then tap people and options do you have an option to set a notification sound?

Has to be done within a message thread from the person you want to assign the tone too.

Yep that's what I did on my V8 but this time I've only got the option to turn the notification time on or off for an individual. 

IveI done some googling and it turns out that Huawei have disabled this function on their phones, which is very odd and annoying. Oh well, find a third party app I guess. Thanks for your helpm

Are you sure you using Android Messages app? As it's a Google app and Huawei shouldn't touch it?

Had it confirmed by Huawei UK that while they have not altered the app, some elements of apps can be prevent from working by their Huawei's EMUI overlay of stock Android. They couldn't explain why their overay does this or if they could update it to prevent it, but at least I know the answer.....
