Welcome to Vodafone Community
I have a Samsung S8 supplied by Vodafone with RED plan. Wi-Fi calling works great in UK - but when in the EU - I don’t get any Wi-Fi calling. If I swap the sim to my old Samsung S7 (also vodafone supplied) - Wi-Fi calling works in both the UK and in the EU.
tried the chat line - they just say text send to ..... and so on then when I keep pushing them they "loose connection"
Yes - my location in Ireland has no phone signal - the S7 works - the S8 doesn't.
The S8 is fine in the UK - works a treat on the underground stations!
Went through the process - sent my phone off to Vodafone - they had it for 2 weeks - changed the PCB in the phone returned it - roaming again this week end - same issue - wifi calling works on S7 - not on S8
Went through the process - was looking good - then all correspondence stopped!
Looks like only option is to keep sending the phone back for repair hoping some one will fix the bad vodafone F/W.
still no resolution - last time i went to EU, i left my phone in flight mode when i got off the plane - turned on wifi in the arrival lounge - wifi calling worked great! switched flight mode off - phone saw Vodafone Ireland network - no more wifi calling!! so it looks like bad Vodafone F/W in the phone - don't know where to go next - no point in sending the phone back for the third time - locked into Vodafone for another 18 months ....
this was all going well - helpful advisor - explained works on S7, will not work on S8 - BUT - now a change - apparently - he talked to "WiFi calling product designer" and was informed that :-
WiFi calling is not intended for use abroad. I am unsure as to why the S7 works when in Ireland but it is not meant to.
Unfortunately there is nothing we can do to get the S8 to work in Ireland as it is working as intended.
is that so? it is only meant for UK? the fact that my S7 works is a fluke?
@kevinfoc I'm sorry to hear about the incorrect information you've been given.
As you can see in the terms and conditions under 'Roaming' - there should be no reason why your Wi-Fi Calling shouldn't work outside of the UK.
Please continue to speak with our team over email and advise that you're still waiting for a resolution on this.
had a call today from Vodafone specialist care team saying categorically that Wi-Fi calling only works in UK – terms and conditions are wrong – this won’t be fixed – will never be fixed – can’t cancel my contract – offered me a discount – so issue closed.
Not happy – now locked in to a contract that doesn’t meet my needs – a downgrade form my previous contract – so all I can do is wait 2 years then change phone company ….
I've flagged this issue to our Wi-Fi Calling Project Leader and hopefully they can shed some light on the situation. As soon as we hear back, we'll be sure to update this thread.
I do apologise for the lack of clarification regarding this query, rest assured we'll look into this for you and get some answers 🙂
When you mention you were in Jersey and found WiFi calling not working, WiFi calling only kicks in when there is limited or no mobile signal available at the location.
Mobile Signal in Jersey is usually excellent, if you were using Airtel Vodafone, there would not have been any issue just using the available mobile network and even if you had WiFi turned on, due to good mobile signal, WiFi calling would not have activated.
Set flight mode turned on wifi - connected to hotel wifi - no wifi calling - making rhe point that wifi calling on s8 does not work when roaming - on S7 works fine - look back in the chain and you will see my issue :-)
Thank for the reply
@kevinfoc We've received confirmation from our Wi-Fi Calling Project Leader that we're unable to support Wi-Fi Calling when abroad.
When connecting to a network outside of the UK, the phone disables Wi-Fi Calling.
When you switched your phone to Airplane mode before leaving the UK and arrived in Europe, this would have briefly connected when switching only Wi-Fi on as it wouldn't have connected to a UK network and would therefore not have disabled Wi-Fi Calling.
I hope that makes sense, but if you do have any further questions please don't hesitate to let us know and we'll be happy to help
So alex was wrong when he said terms and conditions were correct - they are wrong so I guess I can cancle my contract - please let me know how I go about this.
Also please explain why my S7 works perfectly with wifi calling when roaming?
