The best way to find the reason you are unable to connect to your home WiFi and send emails is to refer you to this link from device guides. If you click on messaging you will be able to find how to set up the phone for email.

That's quite an old device and, if you're running the stock email app, it's possible that the service no longer supports its protocols. Can you get emails over mobile data? If not, then I suspect age is the issue.
Depending on the email service you're using, the provider may have their own app, which should be simple to set up and will probably work.
My Samsung was an S2 and the email client on that was so horrible that I switched to the Gmail app pretty quickly.
