I tried to temporarily hide my number today by prefixing the number I was calling with 141 but it didn't hide my number to the other party why?
I tested after mistakenly having given my number to someone I didn't want to have it on my own landline and sure enough 141 did not hide my number after doing some research I know using #31# instead does and I can confirm it does hide my number but isn't memorable enough when making a one off call to a number not in my contacts list, so why is 141 not hiding my number and how can this be resolved to get 141 to hide my number on a temporary basis?

I always understood that you could hide your number when making a call through your phones settings.

You can set the phone to hide your number in settings but the problem is when people just want to hide the number occasionally so use 141.
It appears that some glitch is causing the number not to always be hidden.

Although 141 tends to work for withholding numbers from a landline, the code for mobile is #31# which will need to be entered to hide your number.

Well its been 4 days since I reported this via live chat and still no change restricting my caller ID with prefixing with 141 my number is still displayed to the other party. (I did try to call customer services but gave up after waiting for over 30 mins on hold)
I went into my local Vodafone store about this issue and what was I told to change the setting to premenantly block my ID make the call and then go back to setting to revert back to mormal. Wow what a solution and just wondered why anybody would want to hide there number etc. blah blah blah and was just not interested in taking it further what a waste of my time, guess thats because regardless whether I'm a Vodafone customer the reason they had no interest was there was no sale to be made and no commission to gain. The funny thing was the sales person's iPhone 6 plus also failed to restrict theit number just proving its not just me, I showing them the page by Vodafone Support which shows that you use 141 to restrict your caller ID and they just ignored it not interested in the slightest.
Meanwhile on the same day in first thing in the morning i saw Vodafone support asking for questions on a tweet, I thought okay here is a question and direct messaged via Twitter, what did they come back with a link to the the support page on using 141, so I pointed out yes thats what I want to dao but it didn't work they asked what phone I had gave them the information reqeusted and more too, and what happened an hour later they announced to all that was there shift over and who would be on the next day, naturally I assumed somebody would still get back in touch the next day but nope I seems I would have to start the process over again so that is no use to contact them regarding this issue because by the time i get the point across in these short messages their shift would be soon be over.
So what do I do now keep waiting to see if it gets better, is somebody trying to resolve this, call 191 and waste more of my time on hold and it will be completely pointless if they also do nothing than suggest I ignore the fact there is a problem and just tell me a work around I should use which looks like I'm going to have to use on a permenant basis.
