3G Dongle and LAN

Sorry that this seems like a bit of a n00b question but I've tried to search t'internet but not being too sure what I am searching for (ie terms) I haven't found anything...

I've set up a LAN at an RSL radio station (a temporary one, and we haven't got a phone line *again*...) and it all works fine. This is done through a Netgear router that can be set up for ADSL, but as we haven't got it, it's not connected to it.

The problem is thus.

One of the computers on this network has a 3G dongle on it - a Vodafone K3570-Z - so that our presenters can look up news and weather and soforth (I know you didn't really need to know that...) and it connects fine. However, when the LAN is on, the computer tries to access the Internet through the LAN rather than the 3G dongle.

I don't want to share the connection or anything (although it would be useful, I've been told by the station manager that I'm not to do it...) but the fact that the LAN overrides the 3G connection is rather irritating, especially as this morning it meant that we didn't have any news because the problem didn't surface until this morning.

If anybody has any suggestions as to what I could do, it would be most appreciated!

Hi fairysdad.

It’s not a Newb question as such, but I believe it’s an impossible scenario.:(

The LAN connection would always have priority, and therefore it would always attempt to connect to the internet in this way. You would need to disable your LAN connection in order for the Mobile Broadband connection to be used.

So you’d have the choice of a LAN or a Dongle connection, both will not work at the same time.

Let me know if you’ve any further questions.

Hmm... that's annoying!

it does appear as if it's one or the other, though it seems to be the first connected that takes priority (ie, I connect the dongle then have the router switched on and the Internet works, but the network doesn't until I close the dongle connection).

Need to try and think of another plan to get this to work then!

Cheers
