3G Dongle (Huwaei K4511) was working OK.
Now it connects .. .then after a short time (maybe cell changes) drops, does not reconnect and shows “Device Disabled”
Have to unplug & replug in Dongle to get option to connect.
Under settings I have it to Always best / Automatic and only Mobile enabled.
Under priorities mobile is set below LAN. And above all others.
The dongle shows a service is available…. But in Mobile Broadband app window it shows disabled.
I have removed & reinstalled Vodafone connect app … still the same ?

Hello,
This sounds more like an issue between the dongle and the computer than a sim related issue.
From your post it sounds like:
- You power everything up and plug the dongle in
- The Vodafone Mobile Broadband software detects the dongle and picks up a signal
- You click connect, and a connection is established
- A few moments later the connection drops and it says that the device is disabled
Am I right in thinking all of the above?
Also what operating system are you running on your comnputer (Windows 7, windows XP etc)?
In the Vodafone Mobile Broadband applcaition if you go into advanced mode, click the devices tab, highlight your device, then click bearer (I think it's this from memory, it has a kinfd of phone mast icon) is it set to 3G preferred? If not it might be worth giving this a go.
It sounds like something is happening after using the software for a while, something crashing, perhaps or another applciation running in the background on the computer trying to poll the dongle (therefore making it unnavailable to the Vodafone Mobile Broadband applciation).
Do you get any Windows driver plug and play style information in the bottom right hand corner of the screen when the problems occur? If you do, then you might be looking at an intermittent connection or potentially drivers crashing. It might be worth having your device manager open when the symptoms reoccur and if you see the device tree expanding and collapsing then this would suggest something happeining at driver level.
If you're running Windows 7 then you coudl try using the native Windows connection manager to connect. You need to have Vodafone Mobile BRoadband closed (including any entries in the system tray next to your clock) for this to work, but it woudl be interesting to see what happens. With the dongle plugged in, click the icon next to your clock that you'd normally click to view available WiFi networks. In there you should have a connection with a Vodafone icon next to it. If you highlight this connection a connect button should appear. Can you use this to conenct, and if so does it make anything more reliable?
Doing an uninstall/reinstall fo Vodafone Mobile Broadband will leave applcaition data and drivers behind. If your problem is related to either of these areas then a standard uninstall reinstall won't make any difference. If none of the above has given you any idea of what's failing then what I would suggest doing is:
1) Get the latest full version of Vodafone Mobile Broadband from here but don't run it yet
2) Uninstall the Vodafone Mobile Broadband application you currently have installed
3) Donwload and run the clean up tool that gets rid of app data (available here)
4) Install the new version of Vodafone Mobile Broadband that you downloaded in step one
5) If you're still having problems unplug the K4511 then browse to:
C:\Program Files\Vodafone\Vodafone Mobile Broadband\Driver
6) Double click the WDKDI icon in the folder detailed above
7) Click the device remove tab
😎 Select huawei (make sure you DON'T manually enter anything in the VID_ field)
9) Click remove device entries
10) Plug the K4511 back in
11) If you're still having problems it might be worth a clean boot/selective startup to eliminate background applcaitions as a point of failure. Clean boot nstructions can be found on this thread
If at this point you haven't got a consistently working setup then posting back here any further information you think relevant would be good.
I hope that helps

OK ... first paarts
The Bearer is greyed out ... so no option to select 3G
This is W7 PC
There are no sys tray messages
Sequence ...
PC up & running
Plug in dongle ... after a short while LED shows it has found network
No app opens automatically
I open App ands it shows device ready to connect ... I click connect
It connects at 3G (or lower) and runs OK for a few minutes
Even when in a static location ..... it drops and goes "Device Disabled"
Totally unusable at present.
I'll try the clean up process

Hi,
Thanks for the confirmation, much appreciated.
It might be worth trying to connect via the Windows native connection manager (where you'd normally find available WiFi networks) to see what happens. If this works it would look like the problem is related to the Vodafone Mobile Broadband applcaition, but if this fails you're more likely to be looking at something device, driver or OS related.
Carrying out the native conneciton manager test might save you some effort int he long run... just a thought.
Let us know how you get on.

UPDATE -
Removed s/w
Run clean up tool
Reinstalled s/w (latest ver)
Rebooted PC
Plugged in dongle …. Green flashing LED, then Blue flashing.
Asked to confirm account type & accept t&c’s
It advised there was another application using connection (?) and I selected auto-resolve
Connected OK …. Stayed up a few minutes then 3G services lost (location not changed)
Dongle only flashing green.
App shows ‘No Network’
Left it for 30 min still same ……. Remove dongle, plug it back in .,…
Finds 3G (3 bars of signal) andI then press “ connect” and it connects again. (Blue LED)
Then drops after a couple of minutes, shows searching for network, then after a while changes to and shows no network. ‘No Network’
Dongle only showing ‘flashing green’
Looks like same result … but now does not give “Device Disabled”
Repeats every time

OK ... figured out how to use W7 connect ... and it connected and stayed up 100% no issue.
I have no idea how it will perform switching 3G to lower services and back .... relying fully in dongle .... and does that need external app to perform switching and auto reconnect ?
Obviously simple solution would be to fix why the app does not work .... any suggestions on that ? or is there a Vodafone person/team I can go to .... maybe there is logging or similar that can be turned on and it will show the issue.
At least its repeatable.

Further details .. tested while mobile ... the connection does stay up as it switches between cells, and up & down between service s.... GPRS > 3G etc
However what is does not do is auto connect when connection drops due to no signal.

Hi Sargan,
I’m not too sure what the problem with the application is although it may be worth trying a newer version of the Mobile Broadband software to see if this resolves the confliction.
