Solution

BT Openzone - Can't connect

Hey all,

I'm aware that this is a reccurring issue for a lot of people, but I've yet to find a definitive answer. Certain things seem to have worked for some people, but not all.

I've got a Samsung Galaxy S3 on PAYM, including 3Gb of Wifi.

So, to sum up:

  • My phone notifies me that BT Openzone network is available.
  • I connect to it.
  • No apps can use the connection.
  • I open a browser, and am presented with the BT Openzone login screen.
  • I try every conceivable option, but I'm either told this is a business BT zone, or that my Vodafone username and password is incorrect (despite being able to log in with them on my PC).
  • I also have the My Vodafone app which claims to connect me automatically, but seems to do nothing.

So. What do I need to do?

Dave

I have never ever managed to connect to it, over 12 months of trying I have given up.

I'm sure its impossible to do. Tried with the VF app and tried to do a manual login. Yes I am registered to connect to the VF/BT openzone wifi.

Same answer it will not

It will only connect to the open zone in Libarys and cafes not the roaming openzone that is a different network and only avalable to BT internet users not Vodafone Vodafone sales never make this clear to there customers

I have exactly this issue!

can anyone tell us WHICH BT Openzone we can get into and how we do it?

First go to

http://online.vodafone.co.uk/dispatch/Portal/appmanager/vodafone/wrp?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=template1...

sorry about how it looks

There working on it

Register there

(THIS IS NOT THE ROMING OPEN ZONE SEE THE OTHER LINK ABOVE)

when you have registered and your in a Libaery, coffeshop or what ever and it see's the network

on your phone it will see the wifi then use your username and password to accsess the network if all goes well you will be given accses

I got this working but don't use as there to fare away from me and i use BTfon instead

Thanks for all the replies.

So, the general consencus is that there are two types of BT Openzone (which isn't explicitly stated by Voda - see below), only one of which is actually included in the contract.

Quote from Voda website:

The easiest way to connect is to use the My Vodafone App. Once you have downloaded the App, your phone will automatically connect to the BT Openzone hotspot when you are in range and your WiFi is turned on. Without the My Vodafone app, you will need to connect to the hotspot and then open your browser to enter your My Account username and password before you can get online.

Would like to get this confirmed from an official Voda source though, as it's really annoying.

My phone (including the My Vodafone app - which I'm registered with), cannot differentiate between the different BT Openzone types (if the mythical one you can connect to even exists), and so connects regardless, and then means I have to turn Wifi off to be able to use the mobile data.

Vodafone, what's the deal please?

Today I tried again logging in via BT Openzone, via the Other Suppliers option and chose Vodafone and oncago again was told my name or password were wrong (they weren't!)

I then tried using the My Vodafone app, and it said there wasn't one availablet there!

i talked to Customer Services and was told that according to their Tech people there are 'compatability issues' they are looking into so make of this b*ggers muddle what you will.  They don't seem to know what they are selling or how to use it!

It would be great it the Techies here could get a definitive response.  I for one will be quite angry ithe are being sold something under false pretences...

LOL, Just thought I'd have a look here for a solution. Never been able to before but now have an iphone 6 I thought I'd try again but to no avail.

This is just a scam/selling feature. Im sure...

It should work, but the complications of the system are so labyrinthine and available hotspots so few and far between that it's really not worth worrying about.   When it ws introduced as an add-on to your account, having wifi when you're out and about was useful and a bit of a novelty.  There are so many other networks now, though, that there's nothing special about it.   I was trying to conserve mobile data over the weekend and had it turned off, just relying on wifi at stopping points.   I could always find something to connect to,
