A new site was installed at b6 6nx about 3-4 weeks ago and the band 1 (2100MHz) signal is only at 5MHz bandwidth whereas every other band 1 mast in birmingham is at 15MHz, any ideas why?

Vodafone are refarming 10mhz out of 15 for LTE on band 1. This leaves 5mhz for 3g (so max 21mbps).
This will probably happen to most of the masts in Birmingham and will be followed by a rollout of LTE on band 1.

amh13-that is false. The entire 2100MHz band is being refarmed, leaving no 3G on the band.
However, masts start off at 5MHz and then work their way up to the final 15MHz carrier.

So basically 3g will run exclusively on band 8 in the future?
And band 1 LTE will have 15mhz capacity?

Not in the future, right now. In a number of cities, there is no 3G 2100MHz at all and hasn't been for a short while.
I probably ought to do a video, but for now here is a webpage: http://pedroc.co.uk/vodafone_4g_2100_1800mhz.htm

Thanks for the reply. I'm moving to Edinburgh soon, I wonder if LTE on band 1 is already live there

In your opinion, do you think that they will go to smaller cities with this advancement, or just the big ones that have already seen the improvements?
