Battery will no longer hold charge.

Until 2 days ago I used to get 2/3 days from fully charged battery with my Xperia SP, now when fully charged it only lasts 18hrs even when not in use. I have not changed any settings or added new apps,

Phone did totally discharge over the w/end but surely this won't have damaged the battery.

Hi

I wouldn't have though a complete discharge would damage the battery either but on reflection I have come across users of handsets who have had minor issues when this happens. But usually a soft reset by turning the phone Off and Back on can help.

How old is the phone as battery effectiveness will reduce with time and charging cycles.

I assume your on the newest firmware.

After making a back up to save your personal data you could try a Hard Reset -> Link to show how is http://www.hard-reset.com/sony-xperia-sp-hard-reset.html

2/3 days is pretty impressive and I know of people who'd be happy with 18 hours. Perhaps try making use of the battery saving features in the phone and shut downtown apps after use to see if that makes any difference.

Your usage pattern may have changed without you realising and if Network Signal in your area has changed etc then the phone could be working harder to latch onto signal.

You also have a 2 year warranty with Sony so you could make use of that and contact them via their UK support site to see if they can offer advice and or run a diagnostic on the phone.

Thanks for the reply.

Phone is approx 15 months old, I only make a couple of calls & texts a day & use internet even less hence time between charging.

Trying soft reset, will see if it works if not will try hard reset.

On balance, I'd say this sounds like a battery that's reached the end of its life.  Lithium-based cells normally have a charge-cycle life of 1000-2000 times, but this will be considerably shortened if you allow them to go completely flat.   There's no memory effect and no need to "exercise" them - in fact, the evidence seems to be that regular top-up are actually better.

I believe Sony include batteries in their warranty so, if the phone is less than 2 years old, talk to them.
