Broadband firmware version: 5.4.8.1.271.1.59 DNS issue

I'm using Firmware version: 5.4.8.1.271.1.59 on the vodafone connect router. The old firmware had an option not to use 'Secure DNS' which I turned off to allow the client configured DNS settings to apply. The new version seems to have lost this option? Basically whatever setting the router has configured  applies to all clients on the network regardless of their DNS settings!

Where is the option to turn this off?

Thanks

So it would appear the router has a built in forwarder for all port 53 (DNS) traffic to the configured DNS servers. This is not editable by the user in expert mode. Can it be removed please?

Thanks

@sat505 i'm afraid you're very much at the mercy of Vodafone's decisions on what they want to allow you to control and what they don't.

For non tech savvy internet users i'm sure Vodafone Broadband is great but for anyone who wants to do more than browse Facebook it's a bit of a joke. The restrictions placed upon the user and lack of customisation options within the router cripple the service and would make it unusable for many people.

Hi,

I'm probably somewhere between " a Facebook user" and "tech savvy"!! 🙂 I wondered if you're were using the Vodafone homebroad service without their connect router and if so which one? I'm furious that since fimware version 5.4.8.1.271.1.59 was installed I can no longer get to my IP cameras and thermostat..........

Thanks

@Glyn2004  You have to use the connect router with Vodafone broadband. You are unable to use your own hardware with the service.

If a recent update has broken functionality you will need to contact customer services and find out what options you have.

EDIT: Sorry not very helpful I know but Vodafone's insistence on locking down a potentially great product leaves us unable to help

Nabs is incorrect. You can use your own router if you obtain the username and password from VF. This however can be a task in itself. In my case persistence paid off. Check out the thread on DHCP and there's quite a few who have gone to their own router due to the VF firmware being rubbish and buggy as f...
