Can't Connect E220 Modem

Hello,

I have a Vodafone mobile broadband contract and I have installed the device on my IBM Thinkpad laptop which is running Windows 2000 SP4. Everything installs ok, but when I click connect, I get the following message:

"YOU MUST BE ON THE VODAFONE NETWORK TO MAKE A DATA CONNECTION"

I have checked the network settings, and it shows it defaults to Vodafone 3G. I have tried changing it to 2G, but it makes no difference.

Can anyone suggest why this should be happening as I don't know what else to try.

Thanks,

Hayden

Hello moomintrolluk

The first thing that springs to mind is whether the sim card is actually working properly, as is the case with some modem setups we need to verify connectivity.

Please can you remove the sim from the USB dongle, insert it into a Vodafone mobile phone (or unlocked phone) and try to make a connection to the internet or send an sms. If you get a connection then it verifies the sim is receiving a signal and my help refresh the network.

Reboot the computer and replace the sim into the modem, you'll need to post back your progress so we can continue to help you, :)

Thanks

Hello,

I have tried this but to no avail. I have also tried the dongle on two other windows PCs with XP. The first installed ok, but the connect box was greyed out and the second also did this as well. I reinstalled it and it did work on that one.

But when I've installed it in my Windows 2000 SP4 PC, it installs ok but again on clicking connect I always get the same message:

"YOU MUST BE ON THE VODAFONE NETWORK TO MAKE A DATA CONNECTION"

There is also no Vodafone connection listed under network connections. Please can you contact me further to sort this issue, as it does not seem to be working propely.

Hello Moomintrolluk

I suspect the issue may be connected with Windows 2000 itself, although the modem should indeed be compatible with Service Pack 4, :( We'll have to take a closer look at this so i've sent you an email, please reply to this and we can look to see what else we can do, :)

Thanks
