Can I set my own Smart 3 notification sounds?

I have bought a Smart 3 but find the message alerts are too short and I keep missing them.  As I keep the phone in my handbag I need a message alert that goes on for longer. I've managed to set my own ringtone but can't find how to set up a different "notification". (I do have the sound set as high as it will go, & the phone is set to sound & vibrate but the vibrate is not very strong either.)

Hi SuperStomper,

To select a message tone, please see the following:

1. Find "Settings"

• Press the message icon.
• Press the menu icon.
• Press Settings.

2. Turn on notifications

• Press Notifications until the display tells you that the function is turned on.

3. Select message tone

• Press Select ringtone.
• Press the different message tones to listen to them.
• Once you've found a message tone you like, press OK.

4. Return to the home screen

• Press the Home key to return to the home screen.

Think I asked the wrong question. I have changed my phone & email sounds bu there seems to be no way to set a different TEXT message notification. I just get a single 'ping' so Idon't always here it. Thanks
