Dongle With Asuseee Pc Replaced With V3

It's reported that the USB PAYT dongle can work with the Asus EEE pc, sadly in the case of my 900 series it is not the case, however it does with the 701.
Having downloaded and installed the Linux drivers from the betavine site as directed by the tech section, the Vodafone man at the shop had to admit defeat when asked to set it up for me.

The conclusion was It won't work on Xandros Linux in the 900.

So we wipe the computer, install a clean copy of XP home SP2. Plug the dongle in only to receive a not enough space message. 16 gig should be plenty, but the 900 has 2 drives and the autorun gives no option to install anywhere other than the smaller c drive alongside the o/s.

Manually downloading the software from the web to the larger drive we were getting somewhere near to the demo video, but then it throws up a .NET error and cannot install so we have given up trying.

The good news is, my PAYT V3 motorola can work as a modem, the eee pc has recognised it, attempted to connect, but came up with a ppp link terminated error. any step by step help would be appreciated?

Hi bobby55,

Apologies for the delay, we've been extremely popular here of late!

I've checked your postal code area for you, but to be honest, it's not the best of news (perhaps as expected given the performance of your modem). 2G/GPRS wise, the coverage for your post code is described as "variable" - so you'll find the performance will fluctuate. It's unfortunate in this case as practically the whole surrounding area has got full "indoor" GPRS access, just not your particular postcode.

As for 3G coverage, there is very little of it available in your vicinity at all at the moment, although some is planned a little further South of where you are, around the Ash Abbey area within the next 6 months (these kind of plans are always subject to change by the way).

I trust this gives you a clearer picture? How did you go on downloading eBay? :)

Let me know if you've got any further queries and I'll do my best to help!

All the best,

MatC

P.S. For anyone else interested in coverage, you can get a decent idea of what yours is likely to be by checking out our Coverage Checker.

Hi MatC

Unless you are referring to another county, i'm suprised that ANYTHING is planned for the Ashe Abbey area considering it is a non residential area with just a population of bunnies and squirrels.

I installed Google Chrome (downloaded to pen drive from the main broadband computer) which although struggling, managed to download Ebay's initial page. To be honest it wasn't worth going any further with the site as at that speed, i'd still be attempting to log in a day later.

Since the dongle is as useful for web browsing in my postcode as a one legged man in a butt kicking contest, I doubt if I will be topping it up once the initial 1gig allowance is spent.

A pity I was not made aware of the coverage checker before purchase.
