Dear community,

I'm just asking quiclky about my netwrok, on my admin panel for my router it tells me i should be getting 50 up 10 down speed, but whenever I go to speedtest It tells me i have around 10-20down 5-10up speed.

Any reasoning for this?

Hi, when testing are using ethernet or wifi ? wifi is always lower than ethernet.

I'm using speedtest.net, I didnt realise there would be a 50% difference in wifi to ethernet.

There would be a slight speed degradation but not 50%

I know that the received wisdom is that a wired speed test is better than a Wi Fi version but I've never found any difference in the results I get from either method.

Hello @ConnorC

How long ago was your activation date ?

"When your broadband is installed, we'll optimise your connection to ensure you get the best possible speed. However, doing this can sometimes cause some short drops in service or unexpectedly slow speeds for the first 10 days and in extreme cases up to 30 days. Please don’t turn off or reset your router during this time."

'50 up' would never happen. Certainly not through Vodafone broadband nor any provider using BTs FTTC network. The most upload you would see (capped) would be 20mbps if you were on the 76mbps option and living very close to the cabinet. Perhaps you could attach some screen shots of your router page and the forum will take a look for you. **Remember to blur out your IP address if it appears on the screen shot

@nikiandemma why would 50 up never happen if with companies other than BT?

The reason that there is always such a difference between down and up is because the system is designed that way. Broadband is usually ADSL and the A stands for asymmetric meaning there is a big difference between the speed of the communication in the two directions.

If you need a very fast upload speed you need SDSL with the S standing for symmetrical and the down and up speeds are more or less the same. But that is not common in the UK and isn't likely to be in the foreseeable future.
