Every time I try to download the photos from my Android VFD600 the laptop only recognises the phone wanting to charge. Is there an easy way to find the way to turn this off and then download the photos. I've tried many times and can't seem to find the right place to do this.

Usually when you first hook up the phone via data cable to Computer it asks what mode your wanting to use.
Have you considered sending them via email from the phones gallery and then access them via the laptop or if possible use drop box etc as alternatives.

I wonder if this is related to the problems I've had, trying to get my latest phone to communicate with a micro-USB flash drive. It appears to be something to do with the higher levels of security offered by the recent versions of Android. I kept getting incomprehensible error reports and obscure instructions popping up on my screen. I followed the instructions to the best of my ability, and got nowhere, but, having decided "one last go, then I give up and email the lot to my phone", I somehow got the steps of the dance correct, and now my phone will talk to the flash drive. Unfortunately I haven't much idea what, exactly, I did right, but it seemed to be an issue of introducing the flash drive correctly to the phone!
[Looking back, my schooling seems to have been conducted in some alternative universe, and included training in how to address letters and perform introductions correctly - mercifully, I've forgotten most of it, but the matter of introductions sprang to mind when wrestling with this issue.]
So I can't offer any specific advice, merely the suggestion that it may be something to do with the phone's security settings.

PS - there clearly is a security issue with phones and micro-USB flash drives. I used Google to check that "micro-USB flash drive" was the correct term, and was delighted to see that Amazon is offering some "abuse friendly" micro-USB cables. No doubt something has gone wrong in the translation - I suspect that "sturdy" was the word they were looking for - but for a moment I wondered whether I had slipped into yet another alternative universe.
