Hi there

Until a couple of weeks ago i have been getting exelent speed. But now my download speed has dropped from about 300 - 400kbps download speed to about 100kbps. Now ii use youtube alot and i can't even watch one now without it stopping after a matter of 5 seconds of playing to buffer, then it plays a further 3 seconds and so on. As you can see this is not ideal as youtube was working fine

Can someone please tell me what is wrong??

Thanks In Advance

My speeds aren't as bad as that, but the performance for embedded video-viewing (eg on BBC website) and for web-browsing has taken a marked turn for the worse in the past week or two too.

I don't know whether Vodafone (or their subcontractors, -IBM?) has "tweaked" something in their IT/proxying infrastructure and broken it, or perhaps whether it's just a local/nationwide surge in demand from new September-intake university-students...?

Hi Gothic Night,

We are going to need a bit more information in order to look into this for you, could you please post back with your postcode where you are getting this issue and we can check the sites in the area.

It could be a number of things affecting this, is the speed drop all the time or just at certain times of the day?

I look forward to receiving your response and I can assure you we will get to the bottom of this for you.

Thanks B-)

Hi XxGothicNightxX,

Thanks for posting back your post code. I've had a look at the network and everything checks out, the signal is very good and there are no alarms or warnings showing up on any of the towers. Have you tried your mobile broadband in a different location? e.g. at a friend's house? This will help us establish whether this is a network issue in your area or whether it's something hardware-related with your dongle. Also, do you use the full version of Vodafone Mobile Connect? It'd definitely worth downloading the latest version too.

Let me know ho it goes!

Hi Adam

I have used the latest full version of VMC and used the DUN connection but still getting dreadfully slow speeds.

I have tried this on both my laptop AND main computer and they are both differnet OS's (one bieng vista and the other biend XP *both 32 bit*).

I tried also at my grandmas and that was still extremely slow. I have no idea what is going on but i can't use the internet with a speed so slow.

Hi there XxGothicNightxX,

It's a shame this situation hasn't resolved itself already

Are you able to try the SIM in a handset and to browsa a few internet pages? If you can try this for me and then replace in the dongle. This will enable the SIM to refresh on the network. If this doesn't resolve, and it's still the same, then I'd suggest you try a new SIM, which is obtainable for a local store. Take the dongle into store and see if one of my colleagues can try it. If the SIM replacement doesn't help, then you can try a warranty repair.

Let me know how this works out.

I'm also having dreadfully slow download speeds. Postcode is ch3 7bw. Upload seems fine.

Hi Frankie-Capri

It's a shame to see that you're having issues with the speed of your modem.

I've just checked the signal on our coverage maps for your postcode and it does seem as though you're on the edge of the strongest 3G coverage which could be impacting on the speeds you're getting, but there are no current reported issues there. :)

Has the download speed changed recently for you or has it always been this way? As Adam and Lee have suggested earlier in this thread, we would recommend that you try the modem in another location, to see if this improves the speeds, and also if you get the chance, to try the SIM from your modem in a phone and connect to the internet, then to see if this makes any difference.

If you can let us know how you get on, we'll be more than happy to dig a little deeper on this one for you. :)

Cheers, Helen
