E172 usb modem router settings

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me?

We have a Vodafone E172 usb modem. We use it for the occasional bit of testing and when plugged into a PC it works perfectly. However most of the time it is plugged directely into our router (Vigor 3100) and used as a fall back should we loose our main internet connection.

Previously I am told this all worked fine (only been at the company for a month) but just before I joined it stopped working. Unfortunately nobody seems to know what the settings were when it worked and it's now my job to make it work again!

If I pull the main dsl cable out of the router the modem shows with a flashing blue light but will not connect.

I can't find much info on the settings required but have tried what I have found and nothing seems to work, it just shows

I currently have the APN set to pp.internet and the modem dial string as ATDT*99#, with a username and password of web, (these are the settings I found on the net).

Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Deacaster

Sorry for the delay and welcome to the eForum.

I suspect the setup works fine via PC due to the Automatically configured settings, however as for a manual configuration please try the following settings:

AT+cgdcont=16,"IP","ppbundle.internet" *99***16#

APN is ppbundle.internet
Password and username are web

Please let me know how you get on.

Thanks

Hi, Still no joy!

My router settings look like this now but the green light just flashes.

APN = ppbundle.internet
ATDT = ATDT*99***16#
Username = web
Password = web

Hi Deacaster,

From what I can see, everything looks ok, however to make sure, I'm going to pass this onto our day team to investigate this with our technical teams further for you.

Hi Deacster

I would like to cover several options here so please don't be worried by the size of my reply.

We are not sure what type of package that you are on so I want to cover a few bases.

If your broadband is a contract based:

APN: internet
Username and password is: web

If your are using PAYT, there are 2 options. Either a 1GB per month or 3GB per month, this is dependent on when you got the dongle.

For the 1Gb option

APN is pp.internet
Username and password is web

for the 3GB option

APN is ppbundle.internet
Username and password is web

For all of these options there the ATDT could be:

*99#
*99#***1#

This should have covered all possibilities, so please let us know how you get on with this :D

Hi Deacster,

Martin's details are all spot on, so we'll have to get your details and take a look at your account - I'll send an email so we can do that.

Just get back to us and we'll be able to see what's going on at this end for you!
