Hi,

I recently left vodafone 10 days before my contract end date. I was told on the phone when  rang to get my pac that i wpould be liable to pay up to the end of the month, whch is fair enough.

Imagine my shock when i got an email to say my charges for this bill are £168.35!.  My monthly contract is £15.38 and there was a £6.98 credit on the account as the contract is paid a month in advance anyway.

I got onto live chat and queried the charges, the guy was polite but useless, he did eventually place a credit on the account but wanted to charge me £153.80 ETF. I pointed out that i left 10 days early not 10 months and he was apologetic.

Anyway after spending  85 mins on live chat he came back with a figure of £17.20, i have no dea where he got it from he didn't have a clue what he was doing, and even £17.20 seems more than it should be considering the £6.98 credit but after all the time i had been online i just wanted it to end.

My question is - how is the early termination fee calculated?

Thanks in advance

For 10 days, the ETF would be approximately a third of your Full monthly Line Rental before any Discounts and before VAT is added less 2%. This is what you have to pay for the 10 days

However in most cases as Bill is paid a month in advance, hence there would be a Refund of the VAT and also period not used.

If you give your Billing Cycle data, date you left and Monthly, line rental can easily help you calculte the ETF.

Thanks for replying.

My billing date is 23rd of each month.

Contract was £15.38 a month but this was a discounted rate and the full cost would be £21 per month.

My contract end date was 15/7/17 and my number transferred to new provider on 4/7/17.

As you mentioned discount, if that is valid till 23Jul, I would say you are going to be owed £2.88.

And if you paid full £21 in you last bill then it would be about £6.44.

Have been on phone to billing today. According to him i have £17.20 outstanding to pay. I spent 35 mins on the phone trying to explain that my actual contract was only £15.38 and even with the loss of discount my bill should only be £5.52 as i had paid up front for my last bill. He didn't seem to grasp what i was saying and kept going on about my 30 day notice would have started when i used my pac with my new provider?

He then advised me to cancel my Direct Debit!!  erm.... so my credit score can be trashed, no thanks.

Ive spent over 2 hours trying to get this sorted and now i am defeated, so i will just pay the £17.20 and get rid of Vodafone for good.

Be careful people if you re leaving Vodafone as they seem to pluck figures out of the air and no one seems to know what they are doing - with the exeption of the social media team (twitter) who have tried their best to help.
